MLS’s secondary transfer window closes on Thursday, and Atlanta United are in need of a player, or multiple players, to help turn their flagging season around. On Wednesday, a new name surfaced as the club are linked to Grêmio forward Ferreira, according to journalist Eduardo Gabardo from Rádio Gaúcha.

In fact, according to Gabardo, the deal is “in its final phase”, with Atlanta United set to acquire the services of the 23-year-old for a transfer fee of just under US$9 million.

Ferreira, a native of Dourados, Brazil, signed with Grêmio’s academy as a 17-year-old, debuting with the senior team 2 years later. He has been loaned to various clubs during his tenure, including São Luiz, Toledo, Cianorte, and Aimoré. However, he is recovering from a knee injury suffered in mid-July.

We’ve seen numerous names connected to Atlanta during this transfer window, the most notable being Thiago Almada, Joao Pedro, Ricardo Horta, and Adam Ounas. However, Joao Pedro’s club, Cagliari, reportedly rejected Atlanta’s financial offer, as did Horta’s club of SC Braga. Meanwhile, Atlanta has submitted a bid to Napilo for Ounas and are waiting to hear back. As for Almada, there’s not much more outside of him potentially joining the club after the Olympics (Argentina’s last match was July 28), so that deal presumably should be wrapped up in short order.

Needless to say, time’s running out for Atlanta to make a move. Is Ferreira one of those? We’ll find out sooner rather than later.
