If you are in the Guanica area then a quick visit to Finca El Girasol will definitely put a smile on your face.
Finca El Girasol in Guanica is a Sunflower Farm that is open to the public and we visited them recently after spending a few hours hiking in the Guanica Dry Forest.
Close to the main road into Guanica (PR116), the farm typically has around a dozen or more long rows of sunflowers in various stages of bloom, swaying in the breeze. Visitors can stroll up and down the rows to enjoy the flowers, watch bees pollinate and capture instagram worthy photos. There is really something special about sunflowers :). JUst don’t pick the sunflowers as this is not allowed.
Once you have strolled around the sunflowers you can purchase freshly cut sunflowers and seeds to take home. On the day we visited they also had a variety of local fresh produce for sale along with the sunflowers.
Finca El Girasol is open daily from 9am – 5p with a cost of $2 per car. It is recommended to check with their Facebook page or call 939-402-7967 to get the latest information on the status of the sunflower blooms.
You won’t be spending much time here, but you will leave with a huge smile on your face; well we certainly did….
Prior to Hurricane Maria there were several Sunflower Farms around Puerto Rico, but sadly since Maria most have not reopened to the public.
