Click on image to enlarge. © Copyright Photographer/SFTEP, 2002 · 0 Cerdale ionthas 2 thumbnails  •  slide show español Overview Main identification features white + dense black reticulated spots lower lip - lateral notch gill opening tubular Body short, stubby, somewhat eel- like; lower jaw protruding; with a V shaped notch on the side of each lower lip; gill opening small, tubular; dorsal rays XI-XIII, 31-34 (usually XII, 32-33), total dorsal elements 43-46 (usually 44-45); anal rays 27-31 (usually 29-31); pectoral rays 13-15 (usually 14); dorsal fin origin in front of level of pectoral fin tips. Overall whitish with a reticulation of heavy brown to blackish spotting and mottling, particularly on head. Size: grows to 7.5 cm. Habitat: occurs in very shallow water on rocky coasts, including tide pools. Depth: 0-2 m. Costa Rica to Ecuador. Attributes Abundance: Common. Cites: Not listed.
