Billabong names new chairman

Surfwear brand Billabong has appointed former young fashion executive Ian Pollard as chairman of its board, as takeover talks continue.

Pollard will replace Ted Kunkel, who announced earlier this year that he planned to retire after seven years in the position.

Kunkel will remain as chairman while due diligence is carried out, following the offer made by private equity firm TPG in July.

It is not clear when the process will be concluded.

Pollard was previously chairman of Just Group, the owner of several young fashion chains including Just Jeans, Dotti and JayJays.

Kunkel said: “Ian will bring a strong mix of commercial and financial expertise to assist with the ongoing transformation of the Billabong business.”
