When it comes to a successful tutoring fit, I think it’s incredibly important to feel comfortable with the people you’re working with. Below I’ll tell you a little about myself, my journey, and how I teach. If it sounds like we might be a good fit, shoot me an email!
About 10 years ago, I was in the middle of my PhD program at Stanford University studying ancient Roman archaeology. The goal, of course, was to become a modern day Indiana Jones. As it turns out, being a grad student is a tough way to make a living in the Bay Area, so I started tutoring on the side, starting with the Classics: ancient Greek and Latin. Eventually I began working with a local tutoring company, expanding my expertise to standardized test preparation, academic subjects like writing and math, and college consulting as well.
After earning my PhD in 2014, I took a job at Stanford University as a professor in their Program in Writing and Rhetoric. There I taught freshman and sophomore composition to some of the best and brightest young minds in Silicon Valley. In addition to teaching at Stanford, I also started my own business, Dr. Stephan Tutoring, where I continued to help a small group of motivated students reach their goals.
Today, I’m back to teaching archaeology, mythology, and ancient history (the Indiana Jones dream has finally come true!) as a professor of Classics at the University of Arizona. After a decade, I’m still working one-on-one with a small group of students from around the globe, trying to help them reach their goals in the same way I’ve been lucky enough to reach mine.
