Generally speaking, when players have left Mike Krzyzewski’s program, they have had fairly limited success.
Billy McCaffrey wanted to play point but that wasn’t happening with Bobby Hurley around. He did pretty well at Vanderbilt though, where he was SEC co-Player of the Year.
Mike Chappell was basically the same at Michigan State as he was at Duke, which wasn’t great. Jordan Tucker was okay at Butler but nothing great.
Rasheed Sulaimon was kicked off the team before leaving for Maryland, but he wasn't exactly overwhelming there either.
Alex Murphy? Olek Czyz? Michael Gbinije? Taylor King? Jamal Boykin? Eric Boateng? Chris Burgess? None of these players did particularly well after leaving Duke other than arguably Gbinije, who was solid at Syracuse.
Elliot Williams left to go home to Memphis after his freshman year and was drafted at #22, but was in the G-League about as much as he as in the NBA. He lost a lot of one season to a shoulder injury and a full season to an Achilles injury so he might have done well had he stayed healthy.
He’s currently in Greece.
To our knowledge and recollection, the only transfer from Duke who has gone on to do well in the NBA is Semi Ojeleye (who left for SMU), who had been a Boston Celtic until Tuesday.
He signed a free agent contract with Milwaukee for the veteran minimum, which may not sound great, but he’ll be making close to $2,000,000.
That also means he’ll have been in the league for five years, and for a second-round pick, that’s pretty good.
No G-League either.
