This is one of, or maybe THE, best post-apocalyptic movies ever made. The car chase scenes rock, the costumes are the best, the acting is all very good. Although one thing I've never understood about this movie is why they boosted all the movie's music up to twice the volume of all of its dialouge. I found that by turning on the subtitles I caught things the characters said that I never was able to make out due to the music. But that hardley dampens the overall experiece. I had only watched this movie on TV before and never on DVD or in theaters so I saw a few extended scenes of brutality on the DVD which reflects the mood of this rather stark movie. (plus it shows real boobies!). I could watch this movie 100+ times easily!
The Road Warrior is the follow-up to Mad Max. It is set in a post apocalyptic Australia. Fuel is scarce and people are willing to kill for it. A settlement of survivors has control of a refinery that a desperate, murderous gang wants and will do anything to get. Max happens upon the settlement and offers to assist the people inside. What happens next is one of the greatest car chase scenes in history. This movie also has a killer musical score that complements all of the action. Best viewed on a flat screen tv with a high end surround sound system. The Road Warrior promises to please. Buy it, you won't be disappointed.
What else is there to say about Road Warrior that hasn't already been said. Surprisingly enough... I was in the store the other day and there was a copy of Mad Max on sale at the checkout. I briefly mentioned it as being a good movie to the series of The Road Warrior. The girl had seen Mad Max but didn't know that the Road Warrior movie existed. I then proceeded to tell her that it was a must see if you enjoyed the Mad Max flick. She seemed quite enthused to see it as soon as she could and asked a few questions about it. I summed it up as "The best of the Mad Max series". I know there are fans out there that think that the 1st one is the best but I guess everyone has there favorites. Kinda like the Blade Runner movie. Some people like it with the comentary and some don't. At any rate if you haven't seen this movie and you're a fan of Mad Max then you must pick up a copy of it. You'll have to decide which on you think is the best........Read full review
For all fans of Mel Gibson, this is a must. This was the movie tha put him "over the top" with American fans. While some fans of "The Passion of the Christ" may disapprove, it's still a good movie. Besides, it gives more religious people and incentive to ask "end time" questions. For fans of pre-WWE wrestling (territorial days), the Lord Humongous (Kjell Nelson) character will appeal to you. In the 1980's, several wrestlers played the character in the south (the most famous being former WWE Champ Sid Vicious). With the exception of talking, wrestlers played the character the same; as was played in the movie. Either way, two sets of fans mean two sets of customers. That means more sales for DVD sellers.
While it does not have the computer graphics used in most action films today(often way over-used!) this has the real live action of great stunts, car crashes and general demolition all wrapped up in a great story that even in these days seems like a 'vision'. Post apocalyptic tribes battle for the most precious commodity of the time-OIL! Mel Gibson is great and while the special effects may seem 'old' at times-it by far stands the test of time!!
