Description

The groove (sulcus) for subclavian artery is a shallow depression located on the middle part of the superior surface of the first rib. It lies immediately posterior to the scalene tubercle, while the groove for the subclavian vein is located anterior to this tubercle.

This groove lodges the subclavian artery, as well as the lower trunk of brachial plexus.
