Staff Showcase: Steve Pendleton

Kings Football Academy Coordinator

Tell us a bit about your background.

I originally graduated from Curtin University with a Business degree a long time ago in a galaxy far, far away. I practiced accounting in the workplace for a year and realised that wasn’t for me. Then, after watching Robin Williams in Dead Poets Society delivering a lesson while standing on a desk, I thought that looks like the job for me and the rest is history.

What are your aspirations at Emmanuel and what do you hope to achieve?

World domination for our Football Academy!!!

Since being involved with the Football Academy with Mr Ryan Henley in 2014, our Boys’ football teams are continually challenging for silverware and are amongst the best football teams in the State. Our strong relationship with Fremantle Dockers and South Fremantle Bulldogs has allowed our program to stay at the forefront of innovations in AFL circles. We strive to create an environment, that not only develops the football ability of our players, but also develops life skills that they can take away with them into the workforce.

This year has seen the introduction of an AFLW Academy in Year 8 which is very exciting. Our girls’ now have the opportunity to realise their dreams of one day playing in the AFLW and our football staff look forward to assisting them in realising their dream.

Being the Football Academy Coordinator is a role I feel blessed to have, as football has provided me with many positive experiences in my life and I’ve met many great people. If we can develop positive memories for our students then we are winning as an Academy.

Tell us an interesting fact about yourself.

I’m an avid Seinfeld fan closely followed by Married at First Sight. My dream is to one day be a Psychologist on the panel.
