33 Beautiful Baby Birthmarks

Baby birthmarks are coloured marks on the skin that can appear at birth or shortly afterwards. There are many different types of birthmarks from stork marks and port wine stains to blue-grey spots and raised red lumps known as baby strawberry birthmark or haemangiomas.

Some babies are born with birthmarks on various parts of their bodies from having them on their leg or back, to their neck and even having a baby birthmark on face too.

We want to celebrate all babies’ beautiful birthmarks no matter where they appear or what size they are – every baby birthmark is unique and holds meaning. Our parents are sharing the range of birthmarks their babies have including siblings being born with the same stork mark!

Baby Birthmarks

Rae: Clara gradually developed a large birthmark on her head and neck, and another on her lip, from day 2. We were regularly told to 'just keep an eye on it'. We were eventually taken seriously weeks later when we took her to A&E for a simple temperature, and joined a waiting list for an MRI. This wasn't quick enough and at 7 weeks (first photo) she developed breathing difficulties and it was discovered she has multiple internal hemangioma also, some of which were blocking her breathing. She spent 3 weeks in Alder Hey, mostly in ICU on a ventilator.

Fast forward to 6 months old, now, and she's improved beyond belief. She takes her Propranolol like a hero three times a day and we continue to see the external hemangioma fade, assuming internally they are doing the same. It's a scary story but with a positive ending, and we want to share her story far and wide, hoping to raise awareness that large or multiple hemangioma always need urgent assessment for PHACES syndrome.

Jodie: My two were born with the same stork mark.

Rachel: My beautiful daughter was born with a birth mark/port stain in the side of her face. Very similar to her uncle who has one in his forehead. I love it and I hope she grows up to love it to. It makes her even more unique and special!

Kodie: My nearly 19 week old has a few. 4th child but first with birthmarks, no one else in the family has any which is why they are so special to us and makes her who she is. She was about 3 weeks when it first appeared, started as what I thought was a little red scratch then has grown into her beautiful strawberry. She also has a few stork marks on the back of head/neck too.

Chloe: My 6 month old daughter has one. She was not born with it but it started to develop and grow from about 2 weeks. It has grown to the size it is now at a very rapid rate and I’m wondering if it has stopped growing as it hasn’t for a few months.

Clare: My daughter was born with 2 Mongolian blue spots on her bottom on thigh and 2 weeks after she was born her birthmark appeared in the middle of her head and a few weeks after that a small one on her cheek. She is now 2 and a half and there's a big change in the already. Her fringe covers her head one but it’s faded so much.

Rosie: This is Hollie with her birthmark.

Paige: My daughter born with a heart birthmark.

Danielle: Firstly I want to say a huge thank you to everyone who has shared photos of their beautiful babies! My little girl often questions why she's different and why none of her friends have marks like her and I just know showing her these will make her feel much more comfortable about hers.

She had quite the prolonged entrance into the world so was quite swollen and sore for a few days but several marks remained. A stork mark which has nearly gone now but has always flared up when she's upset. A mark on the back of her neck which flares up with her eczema. And then a 3rd on her cheek which doctors always said would fade but never has.

Whenever she questions it or appears upset I tell her she's got so much love it shows on her face as it’s ended up looking like a love heart. She noticed one of her toys had a heart in the exact same place once and she was totally made up!

Clare W: Our little Ben, born in October with what seemed like a freckle and grew quickly into a hemangioma. This was totally new to us as none in the family but realised after how popular this is among babies from talking to other mums. He is now being treated with propanolol for it. It is so nice to see this post and everyone’s photos of their beautiful babies.

Frances: My son was born with a birth mark on one of his fingers, he’s almost 4 and it’s still there. We call it his magic finger!

Sara: My little girl was born with a portwine stain, hers is rare though as it covers her whole body! And doesn’t show characteristics off a “typical” portwine stain. She has surgery every 4 months called laser surgery on her face, too keep her birthmark “healthy”.

Amy: Our baby girl Flora has one which appeared a few weeks after birth! She is now 7 months old! So lovely to see everyone’s beautiful pictures!

Jan: My Grandaughter born with a heart on her arm also a rainbow baby born after six miscarriages.

Krystina: My little Primrose has stork marks on her forehead, eyelids, nose, around her crown, back of her neck & down her back. She also has a port wine stain on her lip & a strawberry on the back of her head. A little birth mark mosaic. All kisses from angels.

Natalie: My baby has two birthmarks. A stork mark shaped like a love heart between his eyebrows and a little strawberry love heart on the back of his head.

Hayley: My son has a birthmark on his toes the doctors said it’s from where his foot was stuck in my ribs for a few weeks.

Lisa: My eldest was born with a port wine stain. I struggled with comments and people staring when he was a baby. He had many sessions of laser treatment to reduce it but now, at age 22, he loves it and is proud of it.

Laura: I’d never seen a birthmark like my daughters until I had her. Now I know LOADS of people with strawberry birth marks - because people actually talk about them now. My beautiful girl literally only had a tiny wee red mark when she was born and it got bigger and bigger. Now it's hardly noticeable! The Dr thought it would be fully gone by the time she went to school but she is 10 now and its very much still there - just a darker colour. She loves it and we wouldn’t change it for the world - makes her, her!

Helen: My little girl has a birthmark on her right knee in the shape of a heart. We tell her nana stamped her with love from heaven before she sent her to us.

Laura H: Our little lady has a mixed Hemangioma on top of her head. Started to show at around 6 days old and stopped growing by 4 months. She’s now 10 months old and the first in the family to have one.

Michelle: My daughter has a hemangioma birthmark on her neck. It was a tiny scratch at birth and quickly grew. This photo was around 4 months old, she is now 10 months old and is undergoing treatment to try and shrink it as the area it is in makes it prone to ulceration. My beautiful little strawberry girl.

Louise: My little girl born 2017, born with a birthmark in between her eyebrows and above. When she was born her head was so badly marked from forceps I couldn't work out which was a birthmark and what was the marks from birth, as my whole body was in shock and mind was overwhelmed.

As time has gone on it has faded, however becomes more obvious when she's cold (and when she used to cry) it's part of everyday life which we don't even see anymore, she knows she's super special and a sign of her beauty.

Joanne: My girl with a strawberry mark on her forehead, when she was born there was nothing there and within a couple of weeks it grew to this size, she’s 2 1/2 now and it’s faded so much, it isn’t raised anymore and you can hardly see it. She has a fringe that covers it now and everyone seems to of forgotten about it, until they ask and can’t believe how much it’s gone down and disappeared.

Illiana: Miss Evalyn, she was born 3 weeks early when she went to children’s ward they noticed this one on her chest and the one on her back, she now has one on her face and one on her hand. This picture is from when she was just a few months old.

Amyleigh: My son has a birthmark on the top of his arm. I took these photos for his first birthday and I love that you can see it.

Lottie: Little man developed two one on his forehead the other on his lip a week after birth - have both started to fade & got smaller over the past few months.

Laura S: My gorgeous 6 week old girl has got a love strawberry on her noggin.

Nicola: My oldest daughter was born with a birth mark on the top of her left wrist. She’s 13 years old now. (She was 14 months old on this picture).

Lauren: My eldest was born with a strawberry mark that grew and grew in redness and appearance under her left eye. Now she’s 5 and you can barely see it!

Erika: My baby girl has two haemangiomas. One on her chin and another on her back.

Natalie P: Mine both have the same stork marks.

Ellie J: I have 2 children who both developed haemangiomas shortly after birth. My daughter (A) had multiple birthmarks across her back and face. Due to the fact that there were multiple marks, she had several tests to rule out PHACE syndrome. Due to the location on her face, she was treated using propranolol. The marks on her face appeared when she was 2 weeks old and were little pink blemishes, barely noticeable. Treatment started when she was approximately 3 months old and by this time the marks were so prominent and raised they covered a large portion of her face and prevented her from opening her eyes. Now you can't see them at all. She was on the drug for about 10 months until shortly after her 1st birthday.

My son (T) was also born with a haemangioma which developed at a couple of weeks old but it is just one mark, was never bigger than around the size of a 50 pence piece or more than a few cm raised and is on his chest so treatment was never required. He is over a year now and it has started the involution process naturally (when they get more pink and shrink).

How gorgeous are these baby birthmarks?!
