Visa and entry

A 30-day tourist visa is available at the borders for all visitors. All travelers entering Mozambique are able to obtain a tourist visa on arrival. The visa will be issued at listed entry points, is valid for 30 days, and the recipient is entitled to two entries; This visa applies to all bona fide tourists who wish to enter Mozambique, regardless of whether or not there is an Embassy in their country of origin. The price of the visa is US$ 50 and payable in cash. Find more information here.

In Mozambique, you are legally required to carry identity documents at all times and present them whenever requested by the authorities.

Your passport must be valid for at least six months after your intended exit date and have at least two blank pages next to each other, for the visa entry stamp. If these requirements are not met, the Immigration officer at the point of entry can refuse you entry into the country. If you are traveling to several countries, you will need two empty pages in your passport per country.

Health information

Visitors to Mozambique arriving from any country with risk of yellow fever need to have proof of yellow fever vaccination. Yellow fever vaccination must be obtained at least ten days before your trip. If you are traveling directly from Europe or the Middle East to East Africa and you do not pass through any country with risk of yellow fever, you do not require a yellow fever vaccination.

Anti-Malaria prophylactics are strongly recommended as many areas in Southern Africa are prone to malaria.

In remote areas, camps are not able to evacuate guests after dark. In case of an emergency, you will be brought to the nearest suitable facility until they can be flown out for medical treatment. Make sure that you know your blood group, especially in case of an emergency.

Currency

US Dollar is the most accepted currency in Mozambique. However, it is important to carry local currency preferably in smaller denominations during your trip, for small payments, tips, etc. Most African countries only accept USD notes printed from 2013 onwards.

International credit cards, mainly VISA and MasterCard, are universally accepted in upmarket lodges, hotels, and some larger retailers in towns. Some lodges and hotels apply a surcharge for credit card payments.
