Packaging company sets new emissions targets to improve air quality
Jul 30 2010
Sonoco announced earlier this week that it will voluntarily change its greenhouse gas (GHG) goals by reducing its emissions by 15 per cent.
The new target - which will be applied to the company's 300 global manufacturing plants within four years - was revealed in its 2009-2010 Sustainability Report.
Chairman, president and chief executive of the firm Harris DeLoach Jr said: "We have put in place a global web-based environmental management system which collects GHG emissions from all of our international manufacturing facilities."
He added that the move to reduce greenhouse emissions came after the company managed to reach its goals of a 13 per cent reduction in 2009.
Sonoco is the second company this week to pledge its support for the environment after Volvo spoke out about the dangers of toxic carbon emissions for many car users.
