Microtek ArtixScan 1800f with USB 2.0 announced: Microtek ArtixScan 1800fThe ArtixScan 1800f is Microtek’s first Hi-Speed USB 2.0 scanner with high resolution, dual media design, network scanning support and Microtek’s patented E.D.I.T technology.

The ArtixScan 1800f is equipped with Kodak’s latest 14,400-element CCD, featuring 48-bit, 1800 x 3600 dpi resolution that Microtek say delivers exact image quality and sharp, vivid details. This high-performance scanner also has Hi-Speed USB 2.0 and FireWire connectivity for scanning at faster speeds than USB 1.1. The ArtixScan 1800f utilizes an innovative dual media design that maximizes productivity by allowing users to scan transparent film and reflective originals with unsurpassed equal quality and efficiency. Adding to the power and versatility of this scanner is support for network scanning in Windows.

Features and Benefits:

·1 High resolution.

With a true optical resolution of 1800 dpi, the ArtixScan 1800f captures a tremendous amount of detail, allowing scans to be reproduced perfectly and reveal superior image quality. A 1800 x 3600 dpi resolution allows images to be scanned at over 500% magnification and printed at 300dpi pre-press quality.

·1 USB 2.0 and FireWire connectivity.

Hi-speed USB 2.0 delivers up to 40 times the performance of USB 1.1. Whilst this requires the addition of a 3rd party USB 2.0 card, the port is also compatible with standard USB 1.1. For added functionality, the scanner is also equipped with a FireWire interface for users for Macintosh ( via the Macs built-in FireWire port ) and Windows ( via the included PC card ).

·2 New Kodak 48-bit CCD.

The ArtixScan 1800f is the only scanner in its class that delivers a maximum dynamic range of 4.8 optical density. A premium quality 14,400 element Kodak CCD, produces accurate colours plus extremely high levels of highlight and shadow detail.

·3 Glass-Free Transparency scanning.

Emulsion Direct Imaging Technology (E.D.I.T.) allows scanning directly through film with NO glass – thus eliminating Newton Ring distortion. Glass-free scanning delivers the sharpest results.

·4 Transparent media templates included

The ArtixScan 1800f also features five conventional transparent media templates to accomodate different-sized film for professional scanning tasks. These templates simply snap into a main staging tray, and then that tray is slid into the ArtixScan 1800f E.D.I.T. compartment for emulsion-direct scanning. For greater versatility, a unique and separate film holder for 8” x 10” and odd-sized film is also provided.

·5 Multi sampling

Multiple Sampling allows the ArtixScan 1800f to reduce random image noise which can be part of the normal scanning process and which adversely affects the quality of scanned images. By averaging each line by scanning it between 2 and 16 times, noise can be virtually eliminated.

·6 Temperature Control.

Variations in temperature affect the sensitivity of the CCD leading to inconsistent scans. With a built-in temperature management system and maximum CCD sensitivity, consistent optimal scan quality is guaranteed with the ArtixScan 1800f.

·7 Valuable Software Package with Built-in Colour Management System, Image Editing and Network Scanning Support

The ArtixScan comes with the latest release from LaserSoft, Silverfast v6 SRD®. SilverFast 6 SRD® has an advanced scratch and dust removal function that provides users with the capability to easily remove dust and scratches from images either during scanning or from scanned raw data files.

Also included is Microtek’s ScanWizard Pro – this provides a complete scanning solution for novice and expert alike. ScanWizard Pro features a full palette of high-level colour reproduction tools, on-screen proofing, easy-to-use colour correction with auto level, and numerous preset options for the less experienced user, as well as quantitative feedback in a variety of device-independent (LCH) or device-dependent colour space (RGB, CMYK). Full colour management support for ICC profiled devices ensures compatibility with third-party colour output systems.
