SAP routing for a configurable material defines the sequence of operations and processes required to manufacture a configurable material. It is an important part of the configuration process and is used to determine the correct bill of material (BOM) for a given configuration.
A routing for a configurable material is composed of a sequence of operations and operations' objects. Each operation is linked to its predecessor and successor, and the sequence of operations is based on the product structure defined by the configurable material.
The main objects in a routing for a configurable material are:
- Sequences: Sequences are used to define the order in which operations are performed in the routing.
- Operations: Each operation is a step in the manufacturing process, such as cutting, welding, painting, etc.
- Production resource/tool assignments: Production resource/tool assignments are used to assign resources and tools to perform the operations.
- Work centers: Work centers are used to assign personnel and resources to perform the operations.
- Components: Components are the parts or materials needed to create the configurable material.
- Routing numbers: Routing numbers are used to identify the sequence of operations in the routing.
- Activities: Activities are used to define additional tasks associated with a given operation, such as quality control or tooling setup.
- Documents: Documents are used to store additional information related to the routing, such as engineering drawings, process instructions, etc
