Microcos paniculata is a shrub or small fruit tree in the Tiliaceae family. Its native range is from northeast Pakistan to southern China and Malesia. Familiar names include Elm-Leaf Grewia or Microcos. The wood is used for cabinets, and the fibrous bark is made into the rope while the leaves wrap cigars. It can grow to around 40 feet tall. The bark is rough and fibrous once established. The ovate leaves are 1-2 inches long with a leathery feel. They are made into a tea that has a sour taste. The white flowers are small with yellow stamens. It prefers to grow in full sun with average water needs. Zones 10-11

Germination

Soak seeds for 24 hours in warm water. Sow 1" deep, tamp seeds into the soil, and lightly cover. Keep moist in a bright spot. Keep temperatures around 65-75F. Germination is in 30-60 days.
