This is a newly archivally matted, vintage photogravure plate from the 1960s. Photogravure is a costly printing process using etched copper plates with no dots such as in offset lithographic printing. The process yields a velvety rich black and lush mid-tones and the age of the paper adds a soft cream glow to the print. Plate 87 is an image of "Queen Eugenia's Latiaxis" shell as photographed by Hermann Landshoff.
The image area for the prints measures 7.5 x 9.75 inches. The outer mat size is 11 x 14 inches. The mat is a bevel cut four ply soft white conservation mat with conservation backing board. Print is ready for framing. Each print is individually bagged in cellophane with a removable back label identifying the shell and artist.
