Description

  • MK chassis
  • One owner
  • A quality build
  • On an age-related plate (not a Q plate)
  • Bundles of paperwork and history

The original Lotus Seven, designed by Colin Chapman, was launched in 1957. It was way ahead of any other sports racing cars. It remains in production today, as the Caterham.

The plethora of replica makers have come along, many have gone. Manufacturers that remain today, like MK Sports Cars with the Locost, produce high quality vehicles that are hard to distinguish from the original. An MK produced Locost is recognised by many as being at the upper end of that quality curve! These take quality and attention to detail to another level.

History of this Seven Replica

  • First registered Sept 2008
  • One owner
  • Constructed by a professional body shop technician
  • A copy of the DVLA approval certificate is with the car
  • As is a photographic log of the build along with a ‘huge folder
  • MOT’d in May 2023

Specifications

  • Bespoke chassis that was ordered to be wider at the rear to accommodate a particular rear axle configuration
  • MK steel chassis
  • Welded steel floor which means it can be FIA registered
  • The donor vehicle was a 1.6-ltr Mk V Ford Cortina
  • Donor engine believed to have only 35000 miles on the clock when fitted
  • Mileage of 02868 since its first registration
  • All new brake and clutch components were fitted
  • Around 90bhp. In a car that weighs about 850lbs that is plenty

  • Quick rack fitted
  • Poly bushed suspension
  • Collapsible steering column
  • Full screen plus aero screen
  • Bespoke wiring harness

  • Series 1, Ford RS Turbo 51/2 × 14 alloy wheels

Dave tells us that as an ex-panel beater he just loved building this car. His aim was not to build a screaming Hayabusa equipped unusable, temperamental race car. He wanted to build a quick Lotus Seven replica that had all round appeal. It can be used every day. It is refined, drivable and great fun. Or, if the new owner would like, with features such as the welded steel floor it can be FIA registered and run as track/race car. Dave also has bikes in his collection so the Seven Replica is not getting the use it deserves.

The issue with many of these replicas is the expertise of the builder. This one was built to an exacting standard not by an amateur hobbyist but by a pro. There is a photographic record of the build.

Take a good look in the Gallery and you’ll spot examples of the standard of craftmanship. One such example is the rivets. Each one is measured and spaced equidistance apart. Who goes to that level of detail?!

Our view

No enthusiast gets behind the wheel of a Seven Replica like this and fails to emerge without a smile on their face. One of the most direct, purest drives you’ll ever have.

You are cosseted into lovely Corbeau type seats inches above the tarmac. The steering wheel with the quick rack and poly bushed suspension offers razor-sharp reactions.

Very few eye-wateringly expensive supercars get close. Straight-line speed is one thing. However, it is the way the Seven Replica corners that makes it so special and such fun.

This Seven Replica is built to a very good, sensible spec that will have all round use. In terms of value for money and smiles per miles, nothing comes close. Don’t miss out on this one.

Please note that there is no anti-sniping functionality so to ensure that you don’t miss out, there’s a facility to allow you to place your maximum bid for a lot. When you do, the system will bid up automatically on your behalf.

Vehicle Location: Barnsley, South Yorkshire S71– it’s the responsibility of the winning bidder to make collection / transportation arrangements directly with the vendor.

Guide Prices?

We’re different. But you know that. And we’re always honest. In a sector where no two classics are same, how does anyone put a ‘guide’.

Well, everyone knows the broad value of classic, let’s all be honest. So we don’t need to tell you what you already know, do we.

The ‘market’ decides and the old cliché that ‘it’s worth what someone wants to pay’ is no less true. So why kid everyone!

But, because we are different, if it really does matter to you, that’s fine, we want you to be happy. Just drop us a line at team@evoke-classics.com and one of us will be delighted to ring you back and discuss, it’s what we do.

Tedious but it’s vital you read this, please.

We will always strive to offer the most descriptive and transparent auction listings available. However, we can’t claim to be perfect. Your own analysis is very important and we are here to help and also answer any and all queries you may have prior to purchase.

We offer and positively encourage buyers to view, or arrange inspections for each vehicle thoroughly prior to bidding.

If we do take a physical, as opposed to a remote, look at any of the vehicles on our platform, they are not those of a qualified vehicle inspector or other professional. Nor do they include a test drive unless expressly stated.

As with all vehicles of a certain age, localised paint repairs are common. This specifically applies with classics.

So, please, unless we state explicitly to the contrary, please assume that classic vehicles on our platform could have had remedial bodywork of any kind at some point in its life.

Two final comments on images and photos.

The vast majority are supplied by vendors. Camera technology has and continues to improve significantly, but please note and understand that image and sound quality does vary. If you would like vendors to provide more images please ask us and we will contact the vendor for you.

If you are at all unsure, just ask us. It is what we are here for.

Finally, finally, finally. Please note that vehicles are sold as seen and a returns policy is not applicable. This is the norm for used items acquired at auction.
