I will forever be pissed at the writers' decision to write this character off for ridiculous fan pandering.

OK, I'll be honest: I always was a LoVe shipper. Duncan seemed so... bland to me.

Now, as an adult, I am rewatching the series, and not only is he bland - he is not even NICE, as people claim he is. Duncan always tries to avoid confrontations. He wants to "hide" his relationship with Veronica from his parents, which in itself is sort of humiliating. He (likely) cheated on her with Kendall (when Kendall says she's been in both their beds, he doesn't protest, and Logan did say she was in there for quite a long time). The dreams he have shows he is sort of a misogynist in the way that he wants "pure" women - the way Veronica was pre-Lilly's death and the way Meg was. In his dreams, Meg is the angel and Veronica the devil. And we have not even gotten to the worst part: HE KNEW MEG WAS PREGNANT AND DID NOT TELL VERONICA. I don't know why this didn't shock me to the core when I was younger, but now, as a 27-year old, I have to say, that is absolutely horrible. When was he planning on telling? If he had a long-term outlook on their relationship, then it would've had to come up. I am 100% percent certain Logan would NEVER hide something like that from her. He was not perfect, not by far, but he would never do something like that. Duncan did. And it is unforgiveable. Had he been my boyfriend, I would NOT have forgiven him just like that, as Veronica did. Not telling about someting so major, is an enormous violation of trust.

I like their relationship better now than I did as a teenager, even though I think what she and Logan has is much deeper (and they understand each other A LOT better), but this is much worse than I remembered it, too. (I understand that she helped him hide the baby from Meg's parents, I would've done the same thing as they were so abusive. But I don't understand how she could forgive him so easily for not respecting her enough to include her in this.)

I liked Logan too but I also felt sorry for Duncan. His parents were horrible too. Mental abuse is also hard to deal with. And after his sister died, I felt sorry for him again. And remember, he thought he and V could be brother and sister, so therefore, he was freaked out and upset about that too. I did not think he was bland at all. But, everyone is entitled to their opinion.

Duncan never cheated on Veronica with Kendall. It was a set up.

His mother wasn't the best for him. Also, his OWN father tried to humiliate the woman he loved in the end of Season 3.

Why are you so sure she never cheated on him? I am not referring to her coming out of his shower while Veronica and Logan were there, THAT was a set-up so the argument in the schoolyard seemed more logical / it was meant to show trouble in their relationship. I am referring to when she was naked in his room and needed "help" with something. When she left the room, Logan was outside and he said she had been in there a long time. Later on, when she came to the hotel room, Duncan said Logan was not there, and she said something along the lines of "I've been in both of your beds, so I think I've earned the right to just drop by" or something like that.

The two of them were alone there in that moment, so she would have no motivation for lying. Duncan did not protest this or ask what she was talking about.

Re:his parents, and life in general - yes, of course I also felt sorry for him, about Lilly, his illness, and his parents. He for a while thought / feared HE was the killer, and just didn't remember it. That's a heavy load for a kid.

My main problem with Duncan is probably just that I don't relate with him so well. I have always been very opinionated and outspoken, to me he seems to be a guy who tries to avoid all sorts of conflicts. I believe Veronica best summed it up when she said: "You know what the problem with you is? You stand idly by", or something like that. She is absolutely correct. He was never really mean to people like Logan was in the beginning, but he also never really did anything to DEFEND others outside his immediate circle.

I do see other sides of his character now than when I was younger, though. And I think Teddy Dunn was a perfect actor for the character.
