Nepenthes albomarginata is named for its distinctive band of white trichomes under its peristome. These trichomes are attractive to termites, which feed on them and inadvertently become prey themselves when they slip into the trap. The morphology of the pitchers evoke serpentine qualities, with their slender shape and pair of fang like protuberances at the base of the mouth.

Nepenthes albomarginata has a broad distribution across lowland Borneo, Peninsular Malaysia and Sumatra. It is associated with exposed heathy forests and hilltop vegetation, and can often be found hanging off the sides of cliffs. The species grows a messy tangle of vines that drape on surrounding trees for support.
