The claim for the highest break prize is expected to go down to the wire in the South Seas Club Trustees sponsored 2023 Snooker Championship with two scores of over 50 points recorded.

Deepak Jai Ram of Tigers Club from Nausori set the pace scoring the first highest break of 57 points.

Sahil Prasad eclipsed that with his break of 62 points.

Raymond Reddy who is the championship coordinator said both were champion players of Fiji.

Reddy said Navneil Maharaj created the biggest upset during the pool stage after defeating defending champion Nitesh Chand 2-0.

He said the two top players from the eight pools will qualify for the pre-quarter finals.

“The tournament has attracted players from Nausori, Suva, Sigatoka, Nadi, Lautoka and Ba,” Reddy said.

“Interestingly there is a three way tie in Pool Two with the final round of matches to be played.

“There is a foul and miss rule which allows for two resets if called for.

“We also have a default start time set at 15 minutes for the first frame and 10 minutes from the second frame on.

“The total prize money is $1000 with the winner receiving $400.

“The tournament standard is high like we see overseas being played in an air conditioned environment.”

Maharaj was on fire in the tournament recording two other wins to finish at the top of Pool One ahead of Chand the former Fiji number three.

He defeated Ashneel Sharma 2-0 and Vishal Charan by the same score.

The player who scores the highest break will receive $75.

The championship will end today.
