Inside Man

After the somewhat surprising success of Spike Lee's 2006 film Inside Man, talks of a sequel have been floating around for a couple of years. A script for the tentatively titled Inside Man 2, written by Russell Gewirtz, has even been circulating around Hollywood. However, when Lee sat down with MTV at the Sundance Film Festival, he confirmed that Gewirtz's script has been ditched along with its diamond heist plot line. Lee also added that writer/director Terry George would be taking over for Gewirtz in the writing department, but Lee was decidedly silent about what the new script's story will explore.

Lee did confirm that the main characters from the original will be reprising their roles. Clive Owen will be back as the morally stringent thief extraordinaire, Denzel Washington as the senior NYPD detective, Jodie Foster as the tough-as-nails businesswoman, and Chiwetel Ejiofor as Washington's partner. And, like the first film, it will be shot on location in New York City. Lee had this to say: "[Terry George] just finished -- he's at the end of the first act... If people's schedules are open, [we'll begin in] late summer, early fall." So it appears that Inside Man 2 is moving steadily forward, albeit with a brand new story.

He is surprised that Spike could make a decent "hollywood" flick. Since do the right thing sucked so much :roll eyes:

Because if you had looked at the previews for inside man, it just looked ordinary, like it was just some regular bank robbery, bus, airport bullshit. But the plot and the twist saved it therefore a suprisingly good film.

Inside Man to me is one of the most watchable films ever. I can watch that heist over and over, and still be willing to just chill with friends and watch it again a month later. I'm so excited for a second one. and I'm quite interested in Clive Owen's next film as well.

#1- Alex really means a financial success. A Spike Lee film has never seen numbers like that before. It could've just made a little here and there as a thriller but I believe it exceeded expectations at the box office for everyone involved. I hated Gerwitz after his Righteous Kill script.... and Terry George (Hotel Rwanda, In the Name of the Father) is a great choice to replace him.
