Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth: Cait Sith's history explained

Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth: Cait Sith's history explained

It's time to learn more about Cait Sith

Cait Sith is best known for their appearance in Final Fantasy VII, however, they’ve been a part of the Final Fantasy universe since the second game back in 1988. Admittedly, they only appeared as an enemy character and looked more like a panther than how we see them now. This happened again in Final Fantasy IV and they only began to look how we see them now, with the red scarf wrapped around a black and white cat, in Final Fantasy VI. You can find this feline companion in nearly all Final Fantasy games, much like Cid.

Cait Sith was always a lesser known character until the seventh game where they became a playable character who would be an integral part of Cloud’s team. When we first met Cait Sith he was a fortune teller at Gold Saucer, which is how he appears in Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, too. In the original Final Fantasy VII, the cat and his moogle were placed within Cloud’s team in order to spy on them for Shinra. What many people aren’t aware of, is that Cait Sith is a robot underneath all that fur and he makes for a perfect spy with cameras and microphones in his body.

Cait Sith’s storyline came to a head when he eventually betrayed the party by stealing a keystone needed to enter the Temple of the Ancients and taking it to Shinra, meaning the Turks could get ahead of Cloud. Cait Sith did eventually come back to the group and saved them by sacrificing himself in the temple as it crumbled around the heroes.

The initial sadness did not last long as a new version of Cait Sith appeared with all his memories and experiences intact, allowing him to redeem himself and rejoin the group to take down Sephiroth.

Cait Sith is a playable character in Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, and is voiced by Paul Tinto who gives the cat a Scottish burr. Fighting solo, or upon his trusty moogle, Cait Sith uses a megaphone to bash enemies or give commands. He’s often seen as the comedy relief alongside Yuffie and he brings a huge amount of personality and colour when we meet him in Gold Saucer for Rebirth.
