Uvularia grandiflora (Bellwort) is an upright, clump-forming perennial boasting arching stems clothed with bright green, lanceolate leaves and clusters of nodding, narrowly bell-shaped pale yellow flowers, 1.5 in. long (4 cm). Blooming in mid to late spring, the flowers are twisted in bud and slightly so in flower. They give way to a three-lobed fruit which rests on the leaves through the summer. Uvularia grandiflora spreads by rhizomes, thriving in moist, shady areas. A graceful and subtle woodland plant. Plant in mass under trees or along wood margins.

  • Recipient of the prestigious Award of Garden Merit of the Royal Horticultural Society for its outstanding merits.
  • Grows up to 18-24 in. tall (45-60 cm) and 12-18 in. wide (30-45 cm).
  • Thrives in part shade or full shade in fertile, humus-rich, moist but well-drained soils. Tolerates drought and dry soils.
  • Great candidate for borders, cottage gardens, woodland gardens, naturalized areas.
  • Propagate by seed in pots in a cold frame as soon as seed is ripe. Propagate by division in early spring.
  • Native to eastern and central North America.
