Pillow mounds by the River Eden, Mallerstang

The rectangular earthworks are easily seen in this view from across the valley on Great Bell. They may be burial mounds or mediaeval rabbit warrens. There are also prehistoric burial cairns just west. Not far away in Smardale similar earthworks are referred to as 'Giants' Graves'.
