On behalf of the Board, Management and Membership of Ghana Institute of Linguistics, Literacy and Bible Translation (GILLBT), the Director of GILLBT wishes to cordially invite you to the dedication of the Nawuri New Testament.

As an organisation, GILLBT was established in 1962 on the basis of a collaborative agreement between the University of Ghana and SIL international to develop the minority languages of the country, promote literacy, and translate the scriptures into these languages. Work started among the Nawuri people in 1985, with significant work done along the way. For instance, besides translating the New Testament into Nawuri, the phonology and orthography of Nawuri were developed and accepted by the University of Ghana. Additionally, through the Nawuri Literacy Programme over five hundred (500) people have been made literate. Some of these graduates have bridged into formal school to further their education. For example, Mr. Kizito Atorsah, a graduate of the Nawuri Literacy Programme now holds a first degree from the University of Ghana and Mr. Vincent Awaki now has a Higher National Diploma from the Tamale Polytechnic.
With the completion of the New Testament, the Nawuri people are overwhelmed with joy to now have God’s Word in their heart language. Incidentally, the Nawuri New Testament coincides with the 50th anniversary celebration of GILLBT and this makes it a very special edition.
It is against this background that we wish to join the Chiefs, elders and the entire Nawuri community to invite you to join us celebrate this memorable occasion.
