3 Must-See Ocean Views of Fukui Prefecture

Tojinbo is a cliff formed by wave erosion. Since long ago, it has been recognized and honored as a scenic spot.
These rugged cliffs extend along the coastline of the town of Mikuni for about 1 kilometer.
“Columns of pyroxene andesite,” like those that make up Tojinbo, are a unique geological formation that can only be found in three locations across the world. As such, this area has been designated as a Natural Monument of Japan.

Hoko Island is a pillar-shaped rocky area eroded by the rough waves of the Sea of Japan. It is about 50 meters high and 80 meters in circumference.
You can climb up to the top using the bridge and a promenade built from Echizen Beach.
Pine trees grow at the top, where Fudo Myoo (one of the deities known as the Five Bright Kings in Buddhism) is enshrined.
Another highlight of this spot is the beautiful view of the sunset.

Sotomo Arch is a scenic spot with 6km of strangely-shaped rocks, cave entrance, and caverns.
It has been chosen as one of “Japan’s 31 Most Beautiful Places” by CNN.
On the Sotomo Arch Cruising Boat, you can enjoy a 60-minute cruise to see the dynamic scenery of the caves and rocks.
