Wildfire Primordial

Wildfire primordials are chaotic elemental titans that hail from the Elemental Plane of Fire. Despite being weaker than many of their primordial kin, these elementals are still considered to be some of the most dangerous of their kind due to their sole objective of consuming everything in fire. Thankfully these entities are rarely found beyond the Elemental Plane of Fire due to eternally burning nature of that realm and rarely travel to other plane due to their lack of suitable conditions for its standards.

Purging Flames

In the rare occasion where a wildfire primordial crosses into a new plane, whether by interplanar phenomena or intentional tampering, wildfire primordials will attempt to forge a suitable environment for itself to dwell in. This process involves engulfing the region in fire. Due to its highly evolved elemental essence, the flames of the wildfire primordial are especially potent as it is capable to harming creatures traditionally immune to their effects such as red dragons and even certain kinds of fire-based elementals. Secondly, these flames are especially dangerous due to its ability to set nearly anything ablaze and can instantly reduce it to a pile of ash in a matter of seconds.

Flaming Shapeshifters

Due to its pure essence of elemental fire, the wildfire primordials true form is amorphous and can take a form that is wishes. While in its natural state or on the Elemental Plane of Fire, the wildfire primordial often resembles a swirling inferno or cloud of embers. However, while on another plane, the wildfire primordial has been known to take form of a fiery avatar of creatures it encounters, especially powerful creatures that may challenge it such as giants, dragons, or even fiends.

Wildfire Primordial Goals

Driven by their elemental instincts, wildfire primordials are drawn to regions that are extremely flammable such as forests and large population centers. While on the move, wildfire primordials are extremely hard to identify as they are nearly indistinguishable from the perpetual inferno that they transform their surroundings into. The arrival of a wildfire primordial is more akin to a wave of fire that sweeps across the land leaving charred ruins in its wake. Only when threatened or challenged will the wildfire primordial assume a somewhat more tangible or recognizable form.

Battle Tactics

Only the most prepared of adventurers can effectively defeat one of these entities. Despite being traditionally weaker than other primordials, wildfire primordials can quickly annihilate an unprepared team. Due to its nature, the wildfire primordial's favorite tactics is to set as many creatures at a time ablaze and utilizes a number of area of effects to entrap creatures with its flames. Not only due these flames have significant offensive potential, it also allows the wildfire primordial to heal itself as it creates patches of open flames that enable it to regenerate any wounds.

As mentioned before, traditional defenses against fire are ineffective against the pure elemental essence of its flames. To make matters worse, a single touch from the wildfire primordial is able to set a creature ablaze that can completely reduce one to ash. The best strategy when fighting these primordials is to divide its attention, especially to give fellow allies a chance to douse any flames of those who were set ablaze. This strategy also will minimize the effectiveness of many of the wildfire primordial's area of effects as well as force it leaves areas containing open flame that allows it to passively heal itself.

Elemental Nature The wildfire primordial doesn't require air, food, drink, or sleep

Explosion When the wildfire primordial is reduced to hitpoints, creatures within a 30ft. radius around the wildfire primordial must succeed a DC 24 Dexterity saving throw or take 28(16d6)fire damage.

At the start of initiative count 20 of the next round(losing all initiative ties), the remaining flames begin to reform and come to life as 10(4d4) fire elementals. These fire elementals appear in an unoccupied space within 30ft. of the wildfire primordial.

Fire Absorption When the wildfire primordial takes fire damage, it takes no damage and regains a number of hitpoints equal to the damage dealt instead. Upon using this feature, it can reroll a d6 regaining its geyser breath on a successful saving throw.

Fire Form The wildfire primordial can enter a hostile creature's space and stop there. It can move through a space as narrow as 1 inch wide without squeezing. A creature that touches the wildfire primordial or hits it with a melee attack while within 5 feet of it takes 14 (4d6) fire damage. In addition, the wildfire primordial can enter a hostile creature's space and stop there. The first time it enters a creature's space on a turn, that creature takes 14 (4d6) fire damage and catches fire; until someone takes an action to douse the fire, the creature takes 14 (4d6) fire damage at the start of each of its turns.

Illumination The wildfire primordial gives off a bright light in a 30ft. radius and dim light an additional 30ft.

Legendary Resistances(3/day) If the wildfire primordial fails a saving throw, it can choose to succeed. On a success, the wildfire primordial can reroll a d6 to regain its Wildfire Flare on a 5-6.

Siege Monster The wildfire primordial can deal double damage to buildings and objects.

Innate Spellcasting

The wildfire primordial's innate spellcasting ability is Constitution (spell save DC 24). It can innately cast the following spells, requiring no components:

  • At Will Pyrotechnics, Fireball, Wall of Fire
  • 3/day each Firestorm, Delayed Blast Fireball
  • 1/day each Incendiary Cloud, Meteor Swarm

Actions

Multiattack The Wildfire Primordial can make two attacks with its choice of its Wildfire Strike or its Inferno Blast

Wildfire strike. Melee Weapon Attack: +12 to hit, 30ft., one target. Hit 33 (8d6+5) fire damage. On a hit, the target is set ablaze. Until a creature takes an action to douse the fire, the target takes 14(4d6) fire damage at the start of each of its turns.

Inferno Blast Melee Weapon Attack: +11 to hit, 30ft., one target. Hit 35 (8d6+7) fire damage. On a hit, creatures within 10ft. of the target must succeed a DC 21 Dexterity saving throw or take 14(4d6) fire damage as well.

Wildfire Flare(Recharge 5-6) The wildfire primordial unleashes a wave of consuming fire engulfing all creatures in a 30ft. radius. Creatures within range must succeed a DC 21 Dexterity saving throw. On a failed saving throw, creatures take 56(16d6) fire damage and are set ablaze. On a successful saving throw, creatures only take half as much and are not set ablaze. Until a creature takes an action to douse the fire, the target takes 14(4d6) fire damage at the start of each of its turns.

The affected area is also shrouded in a blanket of fire for one minute or until the Wildfire Primordial uses this ability again. Creatures that enter this area for the first time or starts its turn in this area takes 28(8d6) fire damage.

Blaze Summoning (3/day) The wildfire primordial can summon 5(2d4) fire elementals in an unoccupied space within 60ft. of it. These elementals are considered allies, acting on initiative count 20 (losing all ties).

Bonus Action

Flaming Dash The wildfire primordial can use its bonus action to Dash. Once before the end of this movement when it leaves from within 10ft. of a creature's space, the wildfire primordial can force that creature to make a DC 24 Dexterity saving throw. On a failed save, that creature takes 14(4d6) fire damage.

Legendary Actions

The wildfire primordial can take 3 legendary actions, choosing from the options below. Only one legendary action option can be used at a time and only at the end of another creature's turn. The wildfire primordial regains spent legendary actions at the start of its turn.

Blazing Stride The wildfire primordial can use its Flaming Dash ability

Attack(Costs 2 actions) The wildfire primordial can make an attack with its Wildfire Strike or Inferno Blast

Wildfire Magic(Costs 2 actions) The wildfire primordial can cast a spell of its choice

Combustion(Costs 2 actions) Creatures within a 20ft. radius around a spot the wildfire primordial can see within range must succeed a DC 21 Dexterity saving throw. On a failed saving throw, creatures are set ablaze. Until a creature takes an action to douse the fire, the target takes 14(4d6) fire damage at the start of each of its turns.

Resilience(Costs 3 actions) The wildfire primordial can end one spell effect or condition on itself.

Primordial Effects

On initiative count 20 (losing initiative ties), the wildfire primordial can use a Primordial Effect. The wildfire Primordial can't use the same effect two rounds in a row.

  • The wildfire primordial summons a cloud of smoke. This fog heavily obscures a 60ft. cube centered around a spot that the primordial can see within 120ft. If a creature first enters this area on a turn or starts its turn there, it must succeed a DC 21 Constitution saving throw or take 14 (4d6) fire damage and is poisoned until the end of its next turn. This fog lasts until initiative count 20 of the next round.

  • The wildfire primordial unleashes a devastating heatwave. Creatures within 30ft. of the wildfire primordial must succeed a DC 21 Constitution saving throw or suffer vulnerability to fire damage until initiative count 20 of the next rounds.

  • An immolating column of fire leaps from a point on the ground the wildfire primordial can see within 120 feet of it, creating a 60-foot-high, 10-foot-radius column of fire. Each creature in the column’s area must make a DC 24 Dexterity saving throw, taking 28(8d6) fire damage on a failed save, or half as much damage on a successful one.

Regional Effects

The region containing a wildfire primordial is warped by its elemental magic, which creates one or more of the following effects:

  • The ambient temperature of the region within 6 miles of the elemental becomes extremely hot with temperatures up to 150-degree Fahrenheit
  • Visibility is limited due to extensive smoke. Creatures are only able to see up to 60ft. before their vision is heavily obscured by fog. For every hour a creature spends outdoors in these conditions must succeed a DC 15 Constitution saving throw or be poisoned for 1 hour.
  • Undying infernos spread across the land within 6 miles of the wildfire primordial that form portals to the Elemental Plane of Fire, allowing creatures of elemental fire into the world to dwell nearby

If the wildfire primordial dies, these effects fade over the course of 1d10 days.
