Overview
Founded in 1897, Huntingdon Valley started out as a nine-hole course before expanding to 18 in the 1910s. The club then had to move to its present site in the 1920s and acquired enough land for 27 holes. The main 18 was designed by William Flynn and Howard Toomey and opened for play in 1928.The third nine called the C course fell into disrepair during the Great Depression and only the main 18 was maintained. However to coincide with the club’s centennial, they hired Ron Prichard to bring back what is now called the Centennial nine. The greens are difficult in terms of both undulation and slope. Huntingdon's routing is its strength, as it makes great use of incredibly rolling topography where the only flat lie one gets is on the tee box. It also takes advantage of the valley and creek that the property sits on meaning golfers have to navigate and avoid the tough features they bring.

“Excellent shape and a course that always plays substantially harder than its rating or slope. Could play there every day and still would create a great challenge. Also big "kudos" on the new re-designed centennial nine. A great addition!"

“Huntingdon Valley is gorgeously situated in a valley between the rolling hills of Philadelphia. There are not many better inland golf courses to sit on the patio after a round and enjoy a beer, looking out over the valley, as the view is stunning. This, along with a classic clubhouse and truly charming old style locker room, make any visit to Huntingdon Valley special. The golf course is very good and will be enjoyed and appreciated by any visitor. It essentially plays in a bowl with the front nine playing around the outsides of the bowl and involving more slope than the back nine, which plays in the inside of the bowl. I found the front nine to be superior to the back 9 on the golf course, mostly due to the added variety of holes using the slopes off the hills. While I don't prefer this type of routing, as you lose that sense of journey when the golfer always knows that he is heading out or heading back into the clubhouse, it was a solid choice given the terrain of the land. Further, it has classic support with many of the great links courses. Huntingdon Valley may not be the best course that I played in Philadelphia. However, it deserves one of my greatest compliments as it may be the course that I would join if I lived in the area, even over several of the bigger name clubs. Except for Pine Valley, its clubhouse, setting and views may be the best in the area and you will always enjoy a round here."

“HVCC is challenging off the tee because shots hit even a little off line can roll off the firm fairways into the rough or a penalty area. Most green complexes are elevated and well-bunkered. Several holes play uphill making the course play longer than the yardage. The front nine is routed counter-clockwise around the valley resulting in hook lies off the fairways whereas the back nine goes clockwise often leaving approach shots with the ball below one's feet. Great views of the 9th and 18th holes which play steeply uphill toward the clubhouse."

“Great variety of holes Several "Flynn" like features on greens and off tees. Conditions could have been a little better but it was mid-summer. A lot of elevation changes and shot options as this course should be fun for players of all abilities."
