Postcard-perfect Jar Island is home to charming tourist shops, pristine beaches, amazing oceanfront homes…and three very unlikely best friends.
Lillia, Kat, and Mary.
Their friendship is secret.
They need each other to right some wrongs…burn for burn. But you won't believe what else they're hiding.
This collection of the complete trilogy includes hardcover editions of Burn for Burn, Fire with Fire, and Ashes to Ashes.
Lillia Cho is rich, smart, beautiful, and popular. She also knows her childhood best friend, Alex Lind, is in love with her. He’s also rich, smart, handsome, and popular. He’s one of her oldest, most dependable, and most trusted friends. Unfortunately, she just doesn’t feel anything romantic for him. So when Lillia finds out that Alex has his sights set on her younger sister Nadia, and that something went down during one of their many wild parties, Lillia swears he’ll be sorry he ever laid a hand on her sister.
Kat DeBrassio used to be friends with the most popular girls in school, Rennie Holtz and Lillia Cho. They were thick as thieves, and summers were always a blast. Until queen bee Rennie decided to stop being her friend shortly after Kat’s mother died of cancer. Rennie chose Lillia. And if that wasn’t awful enough, Rennie made Kat’s life a living hell from then on. She bullied and spread malicious rumors about her just because she wanted to. One day, Kat decides that she’s had enough. It’s time for Rennie to have a dose of her own medicine.
Mary Zane has been holding on to the humiliation and heartbreak caused by her erstwhile friend Reeve Tabatsky for years. That fateful day at the ferry dock is something that Mary will carry with her for the rest of her life. What hurts the most is that Reeve doesn’t even know how much damage he’s caused. He’s still loved by all, still popular, still good-looking, his life so full of excitement, and his future so filled with promise. But he can’t get away with what he did. It’s time people knew what a horrible person he truly is. And Mary Zane is back to make sure that he pays for what he did. No matter what.
These three girls are brought together by their desire for revenge. They cannot do it on their own, but together, they can plot the sneakiest, juiciest, and most flawless revenge plan.
What can I say? It’s wild, shameless, and fun --- I loved it! I wanted to hate it simply because these teenagers are horrible. All they do is drink, party, sleep around, and hate on each other. But those things are what actually make this trilogy such a delicious read. Plenty of booze, boyfriends, bitches, and bestfriendships here. And oh, not to mention revenge plots and ghost stories that will have your heart racing and your hands clammy.
Don’t be quick to hate because there’s more to Lillia, Kat, and Mary than meets the eye. It’s not all about boys and catfights. It’s not all about fun and games, either. It also talks about serious issues like date rape, suicide, sex, and depression. They look like a mindless read, judging from the book covers, but I can’t say that they totally sucked. I enjoyed reading them and didn’t think for one minute I wasted all those hours for nothing.
The ending leaves a lot to be desired, but I can’t really talk about it without spoiling it for you. Now that I’ve finished reading all three books, I actually miss the rich and beautiful people of Jar Island. Especially Kat and Reeve. It really sucks that they’re not real, because in my head, we’re like BFFs. Once again, I’ve managed to crush on a fictional high school quarterback, who’s an asshole most of the time, but really sweet and romantic when nobody’s looking. And once again, I have to break up with these book characters and move on to my next book. Oh, I hurt.
2 stars overall goes to the Burn for Burn Trilogy.
These books were all over the place. It began as contemporary, but you really don't discover until Book 3 that it crosses over to paranormal. Bad flow in the genre change for me.
It was enough to keep you reading, but I had a hard time bonding with the books because they lacked emotional envisioning. I read words, but couldn't feel the story.
I wanted to, so bad.... but the POV first person writing was super simplified.
a trilogy to-die-for 😭 what a riveting plot!!! i did not expect the turn of events from book one to three. i am speechless!!! not so happy with the way things ended for both lillia and reeve tho. they deserved better 💔 there’s a need to skim to absorb everything 😭💗
🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻 to @jennyhan && @siobhanvivian i can’t believe you wrote these books in threesome pov but never a rough read for me. amazing!
Didn't expect it, but I really enjoyed this trilogy! It was clever, witty and still full of teenage immaturity and rashness. The twist! I can't even. Loved it.
It had some pretty heavy themes and I'm not sure it was dealt with sensitively, so people who are triggered by sexual assault, self-harm or mental health concerns should be aware before reading that these themes are central to these books.
This series kept me on the edge of my seat-- so many twists and turns it is hard to predict what would come next!! This series is awesome I am so glad I read it!! I definitely recommend this series and any books by Jenny Han-- she never disappoints, I promise you. :)
Can I pls thank Jenny Han for the BEST romance ghost story? It really isn't scary but the twists are mad. She really connects to our teen community. Couldn't have asked for a better book!
I decided to pick up this series because Jenny Han had blown me away with her Summer Series. It was not what I expected! Never the less, I LOVED IT! It was perfect I was instantly hooked, there were Romance, friendship, family, wit, and ofcourse revenge.
KEEP READING FOR SPOILER.
Through the third book shocked me a little with the reveal of Mary being a ghost, changing the whole genre of the series to fiction, it was still a really good series. I wish the author hadn't done that... But the authors thoroughly explain it and it's quite clever.
I think this book is perfect if you like mystery. They are really good and you feel the need to get the next book when you finch one. They will keep you reading all day. They are one of the best books I have read. The best twist they could have tough of.I would really recommend people to read them.
Overall, I really enjoyed this series! I was hooked early on and couldn't put the books down. I didn't love the ending, but would still consider them good reads.
omg the ending. even though i think it is a little bit rush at the ending but oh my gosh the storyline, the suspens, the drama and everything. it is a good trilogy tho
Im giving this trilogy 4 stars because they are very well written. I didn’t give 5 stars because the ending SUCKED. I mean, come on Jenny Han your endings are usually awesome 😩 I think the authors wanted to make the ending very unpredictable , which it was, but it shouldn’t have been basically thrown at our face without any intriguing explanation or details whatsoever. And im pretty sure all the readers out there would’ve preferred a happy ending to the strong love story we read about in the THREE BOOKS! The trilogy ended in a couple of pages and jt was SHOCKING to say the least. It was written in a way where it was just one character telling us how their stories ended and how she decided to “fall in love” with the boy she friendzoned in all of the 3 books. I just want to know whyyyyy Lillia didn’t end up with Reeve even after they got rid of Mary. It didn’t make sense at all. As for Mary, the girl’s freaky AF but I did like the supernatural element she added to the books. I prefer realistic books but I didn’t mind when it was revealed that she was a ghost. In fact, I actually applaud the authors for explaining this so logically that it was pretty believable. My favorite character is definitely Kat. I literally would LOL when reading her chapters. So anyway, I think they should make these books into one looong movie on the condition that they change the ending to a happier one 😬
