A wily old codger matches wits with the king of the leprechauns and helps play matchmaker for his daughter and the strapping lad who has replaced him as caretaker.
Lawrence Edward Watkin was an American author and scriptwriter. His first novel, On Borrowed Time, won the National Book Award as Bookseller Discovery of 1937. He has become known especially as a scriptwriter for a series of Walt Disney films of the 1950s.
This is the novelization of the Disney movie of the same name, and written by the screenplay writer. Darby is a rather lazy story-teller, who claims to have caught the king of the leprechauns - who everyone else sees as a rabbit. It's a battle of wits between Darby and King Brian as to who will get the best of the three wishes Darby is due. It's a lively, poetical tale, filled with good humor and great characters. An absolute delight all around.
