Irrupción: Bitácora de un viaje en aguas turbulentas
Lamento decir que no encontrarán aquí una ilustración perfecta que súbitamente lo explique todo, inclusive que exime de culpa y responsabilidad al autor sobre los hechos y sus impactos. Este libro no es ningún sermón y tampoco viene a pedir disculpas.
No desarrolla conceptos teóricos muy profundos, tampoco está contando al detalle cada uno de los sucesos pasados. Más bien es un resumen de la historia de una vida cuya ambición se circunscribe a relatar cuestiones concretas de nuestra historia político-sanitario-social reciente.
Entonces, lo que sí encontrarán son instrumentos de esa historia que pueden dejar cimientos para impulsar un cambio.

Ha sido docente universitario, Jefe del Servicio de Reumatología del Instituto de Previsión Social y Presidente de la Sociedad Paraguaya de Reumatología.
Fue Ministro de Salud del Paraguay del 15 de agosto de 2018 al 5 de marzo de 2021, ocupando el cargo durante la mayor epidemia de dengue registrada, seguida de la pandemia de COVID-19.
Actualmente ejerce su práctica privada como reumatólogo en Asunción.
El Dr. Mazzoleni está casado y es padre de dos hijos.

The beginning of the book started off a bit weak; I believe the author, Dr Mazzoleni, couldn’t quite find his voice, so there was a type of misrepresentation of himself and of his character.
However, the tone changed and his voice grew stronger and clearer as the chapters went by and the reader could accompany him on his emotional, albeit analytic journey, of this crucial historical point in time.
As I was reading this, I kept remembering Elisa Lynch’s book, Exposición y Protesta. Lynch, a historical figure purposely ‘misunderstood’ by Paraguayan society, her image soiled for the convenience of others and made to ‘leave by force’ by a sector of the society. So disheartened was she by the injustices besmirching her character, she wrote a short book explaining what the truth, according to her, actually was. The parallelisms couldn’t be more clear.
Hopefully Dr. Mazzoleni’s ‘Irrupción’ will fare better than Lynch’s ‘Protesta’ and be accepted as a valuable document that historians and analysts will pore over to try to comprehend these turbulent times.
It needed to be written, and kudos to him for having the courage to do so.
