Although a cute story, it seems to be discombobulated, that is, the ending does not seem to be here, and there is a section that is an outline and has no purpose to anyone but the author.
What gives?
On the other hand, the illustrations are top-notch and well-presented. ✿●▬▬▬▬●✿
Another fun, mysterious, magical storybook by author/illustrator Carolyn Watson Dubisch. Dubisch’s illustrations are so unique and creative! I especially enjoyed her color palette and use of curvy lines in these illustrations. I’ve read many Dubisch books and I always enjoy the magical elements that she infuses into her stories and who doesn’t love a story with a fantastic dragon! She’s such a prolific author/illustrator. I look forward to reading more of her storybooks!
A beautifully illustrated book that will have you guessing what will happen until the end. I LOVE this Dragon tale! I hope the dragon in the book makes even more appearances in future stories! 5 stars for sure!
This magical tale is a great read for any young fantasy and adventure lover. It starts off with a couple of children who are restless, being encouraged to go and enjoy themselves outside, by their quirky aunt. Little do they know that they are about to embark on a magical discovery and find out that their aunt can do more than bake scones! The illustrations are beautiful and unique- perfectly complementing the style of the story too. An engaging and beautiful book.
Kids will enjoy this mystery. A brother and a sister throw stones along the river bank. They are baffled how and why they are thrown back. What they find is trapped across the pond and who is responsible, is the mystery kids will discover while reading this story. It is beautifully illustrated.
I liked how a simple story that had a normal beginning turned out into an interesting and life lesson to children. From a personal perspective, I think that the way the kids threw up the stones and the stones could come back right to them can simply teach children of all ages that whatever they do for others; whether good or bad will always come back to them in unexpected ways.
Two children go on a magical adventure as they go outside by their aunt’s house. They threw stones in the lake, and the stones came back to them. The children soon find a banished dragon! This is a fun story with bright illustrations that will keep families entertained.
I’ve read a few of this author’s books and they always suck me in, even as an adult! She really knows how to tell a story - they are always so unique with a touch of magic and mystique. That is not a quality I find in a lot of children’s books these days, and I’m pleased to see it here.
This is a great adventure story all beginning with cookies dropping and being sent outside only to find a treat. I highly recommend reading this book it’s a great story!
A brother and sister are stuck visiting their aunt’s house; while listening to the grown-ups talk, they grow antsy and bored. Finally, they are told to go play outside and eagerly run out the door. Heading into the nearby forest, they find a path leading to a spooky pond. They start skipping rocks, but the stones come flying back at them! Not only are rocks come back from the pond, but they are also hot and burn to the touch. So the two set off around the pond to investigate the cause of the mysterious rocks. What will they find lurking in the mist?
Dragon Stones by author Carolyn Watson Dubisch has written an excellent picture book illustrated in a whimsical comic book style. The characters are entertaining and relatable for young to preteen children. Ron and Lizzy are your typical children, and they eagerly set off on an adventure to cure the boredom of sitting around talking about lawns. The children’s curiosity is contagious, and readers will want to race around after them to find out how the rocks are returning to them and with a pattern on them as well.
I enjoyed the story’s direction; I just wanted more. I feel like Aunt Edwina could have presented so much more to the story and that the climactic moment was cut short. There is a lot of potential in this character, and I hope readers will get to see more of Aunt Edwina as I think she has a lot of mystery sounding her. Her ending comments will leave readers asking questions, and hopefully, there will be another children’s book to answer that question.
Dragon Stones is a magical children’s fantasy story that captivates young readers. The illustrations are bold and well done, the characters relatable, and the story is interesting. This is a great children’s book for a classroom library.
An intriguing magical mystery lurks within the depths of this book, just waiting to be discovered by inquisitive little ones.
When two unruly children can’t quite behave themselves at their Aunt’s house, they are told to go outside and entertain themselves, and inevitably stumble upon further trouble, of course. The two are likeable rogues and their dialogue and actions build them up to be believable characters throughout, with a cheeky side that will appeal to younger children but also remind them what constitutes good behaviour! With a pacy plot line, the story ducks and dives from scene to scene, with each page delivering a crucial piece of the strong story, ultimately ending in a way that will teach children a message about their actions.
The formatting of this book does let it down somewhat: the font isn’t entirely child friendly and is all in capital letters, which isn’t ideal for children learning to read. It’s also worth noting that with the author being based in the US, the spellings are of the American variant. The images themselves are also on the gimicky side, slightly clip art-like in appearance.
Although the story was quite a unique and interesting one, the presentation does mean the book isn’t immediately as appealing as it could be. The Book Dragon enjoyed this playful tale and awards it three stars.
Alluring paths and mist in children’s books always lead to something SPOOKY. Add two bored, mischievous, and curious siblings and you can have a recipe for a TROUBLE. The author of Dragon Stones includes a friendly and mysterious witch to solve the spooky trouble but her task seems half-finished – the kids are saved and this is the end of the story. Children may love the magical book because dragons are their favourite characters. Children may love the comic book style layout, the cartoonish illustrations, or the bubbles with difficult/unfriendly to-read text in capital letters. They may love the moral lesson that we need to take responsibility for our actions. Unfortunately, the compelling opening grabs the reader but the author does not provide an adequate ending forgetting that the little ones keep reading because they want answers…
Lizzie and Ron may have been bored sitting in their Aunt Edwina’s house, but once they stepped out for a walk in the woods, they found an adventure they were not expecting! Adorable book for story time, and good for pre-readers because the accompanying pictures tell the same story.

A good book is loved by all! My seven-year-old grandson was enthralled by Dragon Stones. He gave it five stars since he thought it was his favorite Carolyn Watson Dubisch book. It is a lovely, magical book with exquisite illustrations, with a flawless conclusion that leaves us both wanting more!
Fun illustrations. The text was easy to read and its style reminded me of a comic book, which makes me smile. The story took an adventurous turn that kept me very engaged.
This magical story kept me on my feet as it unfolded. It would be a great story for children and has a nice fantasy theme going. I thought the ending was very clever and a bit funny.
