Read Guarded by the Hybrid to find out.

Lady Isla Le’rank is trapped in a loveless, abusive marriage, all because she is a rare Moonstone goddess. But she cannot bear her husband an heir until her skin takes on the pearly, opalescent glow that means she is ripe for mating. Since her husband has failed to bring on the glow himself, he hires a Kindred warrior to help him.

Sark is a Hybrid—half Giant Kindred and half Ice Drake Kindred. He hires himself out as a Security Specialist to the rich and famous of the galaxy. But this latest contract is very strange—why in the Seven Hells would Lord Baslik Le’rank hire him to act as his wife’s bodyguard…and also massage her every night?

The contract is strange but the money is good—Sark takes the job. But when he finds that his new charge is as defiant as she is beautiful, the ice around his heart begins to melt.

Isla, for her part, finds that her body reacts to the touch of her new guard in a way it never did for her cruel husband. She begins to care for Sark and he begins to care for her, but he knows he can never have her—she is another male’s mate. But when she finally begins to glow, during a dangerous trip to the world of Fenushia, will Sark be able give her up—or will a buried part of him awake and demand to keep her?
You’ll have to read Guarded by the Hybrid to find out!

I really thought this was going to be at least 4 stars by the way the book was flying by for me. I was at the 50% mark, and I thought to myself, already?

What stopped it from being 4 stars is that I needed more conversation between Isla & Sark (more development of the romance). Since Isla's backstory wasn't as interesting, it would have been nice for Sark to tell her about his previous assignments, his life previously, etc. I left the book not knowing what they'd do together besides sex and traveling (as the epilogue told me).

I liked how Evangeline tried to switch it up with her writing style. Usually (besides her Alien Mate Index series), all the books are written in third-person. This started off as Isla's diary. When it suddenly switched to the third person when Isla put her diary down, I wrote in my Kindle: "no, I liked it better in first person before she switched to 3rd person omniscient (the narrator)!" Then, for Sark's POV, it was him recording his voice as he told the story. It was a tiny bit repetitive when it switched from Isla's first-person POV to Sark's first-person POV, giving his take on the events, when it was pretty obvious. This made me realize that I like first-person way more than third, and if I ever write another novel, it will definitely be in the first person. (I don't understand why everyone hates it.)

Summary: Isla's cruel husband, Baslik, hires Sark, a Kindred Security specialist, as Isla's bodyguard and masseuse to bring about her glowing, so he can get an heir on her. Instead, Isla & Sark fall in love. Isla is a Moonstone goddess, and Sark is half Drake Kindred and half Giant Kindred.

I totally didn't realize Baslik was a royal from the blurb. This book also needed some more proofreading. Sark was misspelled as "Start" once, which was funny.

A good line from the book: "Besides, I’d rather have pain from you than pleasure from anybody else, baby."

I'll probably read another Kindred book after this but one in the main numbering just to say I read two of her books the same day.

It gets 4 stars just for "goddess pearl" and "sacred honey mouth." This is dub-con, but it's so make-believe, it didn't bother me. This book was funny, but the author hadn't meant it to be. The over the top sex scenes were hilarious. Sark is a giant/dragon shifting kindred hybrid. He's only 8ft tall, so he's an outcast amongst giants. He can't shift to dragon form either. Isla's been raised by her g-ma and they are so poor, Isla will soon have to work as a prostitute to keep them from starving. She agrees to marry a prince so her g-ma can live off of her "bride price." The prince wants her because she is a rare moon goddess whose genes are recessive. This is ideal, since the king will pick his successor based on which prince has an offspring that looks most like their line. Isla is abused by her husband, who is trying to get her to go into her breeding state. He hires Stark to be her bodyguard and stay in her quarters and massage her. He knows kindreds are good with women and have happy mates. Her husband wants Stark to get her into her breeding state, since she hasn't responded to him, and then hand her over so he can get her pregnant. Low and behold, he can shift to dragon form. His dragon comes out to save her. Once the hubby is out of the picture, Stark thinks he can't mate her because he's a hybrid. Of course he can and they live HEA.

‘I’d rather have pain from you than pleasure from anybody else. Go on, hurt me’

The quote in the title summarizes this book in a nutshell. Guarded by the Hybrid is the story of a hybrid shifter- part Giant Kindred part Dragon Kindred that gets hired to “protect” a moonstone goddess. Sark, the security specialist, rapidly realizes he got hired for no ordinary assignment. Isla’s husband hires him to protect and massage his wife to make her fertile. It is clear in the first couple of pages that Isla is trapped in an abusive marriage. This book was a fast read with an HEA. Spice factor was 4 peppers out of 5.
What I liked.... was the MC is a dragon shifter. It is also true to Evangeline’s other books where it respects women and celebrates a woman’s curves.
Why didn’t it get 5 stars?
This book was written in the popular style of alternating the MC’s POV. I found this very distracting and it was hard to connect with the characters. In my opinion, Isla jumped into a sexual relationship with Sark pretty quickly. Also, compared to Evangeline’s other books there was just something missing between the main characters.

He was hired to Guard an IMPORTANT person but never did he expect to fall in love. Hybrid he thought he was until she came along and opened doors that were closed from the time he was 18 YEARS. He has a DRAGON that's slowly awakening. A must read book.

In Guarded by the Hybrid Evangeline Anderson once again brings her world of sci-fi romantic fiction smack into our world of reality. If I could give this one 6 or 7 stars, I would.

So many of us hear of wives abused by their husbands, both mentally and physically, but hopefully none are treated as badly as Isla. In this Kindred Tale, Lady Isla Le’rank is trapped in a horrible marriage to Lord Baslik Le’rank, a man who is as physically ugly as his personality is abusive. Isla is a rare and beautiful Moonstone goddess who will bear her mate a son looking exactly like his father only once she shows the pearl-opal glow brought on by a loving husband. But self-centered Baslik, just as his father, shows her only verbal and physical abuse. Because his treatment of her fails to bring on her glow, he hires a Hybrid Kindred warrior, Sark, to protect Isla on their upcoming dangerous journey with additional instructions to “massage” her to bring on this glow. Sark is a Hybrid, half Giant and half Drake, and previously he has been hired as a fearsome mercenary. He also has been raised to respect women and treat them with gentleness as all Kindred are. Isla responds well to the handsome Hybrid, just as her mate hoped she would.

Baslik discovers Isla living with her grandmother Nana. Before their deaths, her parents had left her enough for both ladies to live on, but since females were considered inferior, almost all of her inheritance had been gambled away by her uncles. Baslik pretended not to notice her poverty but referred to her as a “rare gem” that any many would love to “possess.” Even though Isla realizes she will be treated as nothing but an object, Nana, thinking Isla will be well provided for by a son of royalty, agrees to the Bride-price. Isla only speaks up to make sure the money will go only to Nana, not to her uncles as usually happens.

As Isla enters her loveless marriage to Baslik, the abuse begins. Warned by her Nana not to consummate the marriage until she glows, she suffers for nearly a year until Baslik tells her he is taking her on a one-year anniversary trip to a planet with a special fertility ceremony. On this trip he introduces her to Sark, the Hybrid Kindred. Sark gradually comes to care for her, but he cannot intercede because she is another man’s mate. Isla and Baslik are also accompanied by his father, his twin brother, and his brother’s wife. The father, the prince of their region, has announced the next ruler will be the son whose male child looks the most like the father and sons, so Baslik is desperate to have Sark bring on Isla’s glow, knowing the male child of Isla and Baslik will look exactly as he, his twin brother and father do.

We have now come full circle to my original thought. Ms. Anderson has taken a story of abuse in Isla’s world brought on by greed and written a Kindred Tale that mirrors those same attributes. Although she never says that is something she intended to do, but the similarities are too close not to be compared. Of course, Ms. Anderson has not written a study in sociology, but a romantic tale. Even if the reader doesn’t see the comparisons, this novel can be enjoyed as a Kindred exotic romance, a treasure to be read and reread. Personally I loved it and stayed up too late to finish it. Guarded by the Hybrid is definitely a winner!.

I enjoyed reading this book. It tells the story of Isla and Sark. It’s a well written book and has fantastic characters and storyline. There’s action, danger, fated mates, passion, steamy scenes and more. Isla is a moonstone goddess, this means when a male makes her glow she will give them a male child that looks exactly like their father. Her husband wants a male heir in order to take over his father, a prince. The child must look like him though, which is why he’s chosen Isla. The problem is he cannot make her glow. He’s abusive and cruel, this is the reason why. He employs a kindred male to guard her but also he’s to massage her daily. He thinks the guard will make her glow. The goddess tells Sark to take this job and it will waken that which is hidden. They get to know each other and Sark saves Islas life. The gets the first sign that her glow will be upon her. This is her husbands plan, to have Sark make her glow so he can then impregnate her and get his heir. Little does he know the goddess also has a plan and it doesn’t involve him getting his wife pregnant. Sark gives his oath to Isla, he vows to protect and guard her and no one will touch her without her permission, that includes her husband.

A simply fantastic read simply wonderful characters, so well written

This is based around Lady Isla Le’rank and the terrible marriage she has been trapped in and the abuse she has suffered at the hands of the man that should have loved and protected her and that was her husband.

She had failed to show the moonglow which is precious in its rareness not only does it signify that she is ripe to mate but also will only show it seems when she is with a suitable mate and this seems to be the Kindred Warrior that has been protecting her.

Sark is a Hybrid giant and he has done the best he could to stay apart from this delightful beauty but she is simply too modest, kind and beautiful and I guarantee that you will love this story as much as myself.
I assure you that you will love every moment of this book it is simply a fantastic read.

Isla is a princess with a husband that only wants her for the heir she could provide. He has no love nor affection for her at all and only shows her cruelty. Sark is hired to be Isla's protector and to possibly bring the 'glow' to Isla so she could "breed" with her. Sark immediately is drawn to Isla and treats her kindly and with affection. As with all kindred, they cherish females and show them nothing but respect.

Isla's husband wants to travel to another planet to help her be able to glow and during this trip, Sark and Isla form an even stronger bond. Sark finds out who he really is and Isla realizes she loves Sark.

The one thing you can always count on with Evangeline's book is the loving way the men care for their women, and you will not be disappointed with the way Sark cares for Isla. There is also a new type of hybrid in this book which I loved, and a different perspective from the main characters where they are telling their story from the entries in their journals. Another interesting way Ms. Anderson mixes things up. Another home run for me!!!.

When I was reading this book I didn't like the book at the beginning of the book. I liked the characters and the tile straight in the very beginning and I didn't like the badie Basilk at tall from the very beginning of the book. I liked the idea 💡that Isla got to be more heroin in the middle of the book very much thank you Evangeline. 😀 I liked the last 6 chapters of the book the best and only wanted to read more of the book. I didn't like the idea of going to the baby clinic at talk in book, but went a long with it has I read and felt more to the end of the book it was a great idea 💡. I liked the more the book more towards the end the best. 😀. I liked going back to mother ship at the end of the book the I got a idea 💡 that Yipper needs to give all the brides in beginning of the book like some kind Medline with the language power tac to help the brides be more like 👍 heroine and lover's to they kindred. I loved the idea of the Guardian and protecting very much from the beginning of the book. I can't wait to read, more books 📚 by Evangeline Anderson in the near future.😀

Guarded by the Hybrid: Kindred Tales 44 - Evangeline Anderson

Although this is the 44th Tales book the author has found unique and creative ways to introduce new characters from different kinds of species and planets with new stories.
A strong female protagonist,Isla, despite her difficult circumstances with a deplorable abusive husband. It was interesting to have a different writing style using two different POV’s with diary entries.
Sark was a drake/giant hybrid that didn’t know he was a hero until he never thought he could be mate material. Fortunately the “Goddess” is there for those that are worthy and he knew his future was to help Isla escape her situation and rescue her from her abusive relatives and husband. I hope females are not so victimized in the future of all worlds.
I loved the idea of a Moonstone goddess and how she and Sark both overcome obstacles and find their way to a HEA even though there is quite the entertaining, heart stopping, fantastical and H*t journey to get there. Enjoy this riveting story.

Firstly let me start with saying that the kindred books and series are amazing, I love them and haven't read a book yet that hasn't had be rivetted from the first few paragraphs. I really enjoyed reading about Isla and Sarks story and their journey to love, especially as it was hindered by Islas abusive husband.
However, the only thing that spoilt this book for me was the way in which it was written. I didn't particularly enjoy the diary view as sometimes this could become repetitive and annoying, this at times felt like this was just filling out the book which was totally unnecessary as the book didn't need it as it was totally amazing without it.
I would still completely recommend it, and would still read another kindred tale if I found out that it was written in the same style.
This book was provided to me with no requirement for a review, I voluntarily read it and my comments are my honest opinion.

There is so much I want to say about this book.
First off, Isla and Sark are incredibly hot together. Their love grew during such a stressful time but it saved them both in more ways than one.
I loved everything about it...well, except for a few characters. But like they say, there is always a at least one awful character in every book. I did love how they were dealt with, VERY much.
I was going to try and write a long review but everything I want to say will give everything away and that is not how I write reviews.
I will just say this. This is a great love story. A great addition to the Kindred Tails. We even get to see some people from the previous books which I always love.
I just love an epilogue at the end of a book!! I always want to know what happened after.
I HIGHLY recommend this book.

What I liked:
- Sark being a drake / giant hybrid.
- The whole “Moonstone Goddess” thing was really creative and I enjoyed it.
- When Sark was teaching Isla “stuff”…. in the bedroom kind of “stuff”. Hehe.
- The Fenushian people were also really creative and entertaining.
- Isla’s husband was so deplorable that it didn’t feel like Isla was cheating in any way.
- I mean… who doesn’t like bodyguard romance lol!

What I didn’t like:
- The diary writing style just wasn’t my cup of tea. The timeline had to jump around to incorporate it, which I felt interrupted the flow of the story. And the alternating POVs made some parts feel repetitive to me.
- I wish there had been more interactions between Isla and Sark’s drake, as that was my favorite part of the book.

Overall it was a very enjoyable read, and I’d recommend it to any bodyguard romance fan.

Seriously though, Can you improve on perfection?

Oh my gosh! I just got through reading the"Guarded by the Hybrid #44" series and loved them all. The action, the adventure, love, and interactions of the characters is remarkable. Very well written. What more can happen. We can't forget about all the stories in this series. Will we get a book about a party reuniting all on each mother ship . Sorta a couples mother ship event? Is every one on the monstrum ship a sentient being or just an intelligent creature unmateable? Will they find love with the human females? So many questions, so many outcomes.... Please more, more, more You Go Evangeline. You are amazing👍 storytelling Queen! You have 5+++++++Stars in my opinion. All your books won't disappoint as a seasoned reader. You will stay up late reading each and every book of kindred brides.

Lady Isla finds herself just trying to survive within a marriage that was arranged to achieve an heir for her cruel weasel of a husband who is son to a prince.
Unfortunately for him, things aren't progressing fast enough so a Kindred security specialist, Sark is hired to protect Isla and administer a nightly massage to enable a child to be conceived.
As they get to know one another, deep feelings for each other become stronger.
Forced to travel to a strange world to produce fertile results puts Isla in imminent danger.
Will Sark be able to keep her from harm or will he need the assist of an untapped resource to assist?

Guarded by the Hybrid has a new giant/dragon hybrid, Goddess intervention, a princess that needs rescuing, and lots of steamy romance. What more could you ask for in a paranormal romance?

I loved Sark and Isla and their interactions together. They burned up the pages with their shared chemistry.

This story also contains new humanoids on another planet full of more sci-fi adventure and creativity as their journey takes them off world. The humanoids of Fenushia are very interesting as is their way of life.

Fair warning that Isla does suffer from domestic abuse in this story, but don’t let that deter you from reading, as always, Evangeline Anderson manages a pleasurable outcome for her characters.

I received this ARC for an honest review.

Guarded by the Hybrid

When Sark goes for a job interview with a cruel, narcissistic man named Baslik, who wants to hire him to protect his wife, Isla who is a Moonstone Goddess, he finds there is more to this contract then he thought. When Sark realizes Baslik abuses his wife, he is determined to protect her at all costs. Baslik is determined to breed Isla as soon as possible, but being a Moonstone Goddess her body must glow first, but without kindness and love that will not happen, because Baslik is incapable of kindness. He therefore tasks Sark to do it but he does not want to complete the process which would allow Baslik to breed Isla. How will they avoid it and save Isla. Loved this story.

Another brilliant story from Ms Evangeline Anderson. I have never been disappointed when l have picked up one of her books to read, and Guarded by the Hybrid didnt fail either.
Our two main characters are Lady Isla Le'rank who is a Moonstone goddess trapped in an abusive marriage where her husband, Baslick only wants to breed her to gain the heir he requires to maintain his status in society.
Sark is a Hybrid Kindred who is hired to guard and awaken the 'glow' within Isla to allow Baslick to be able to breed her. What started out as a job to Sark to protect a female in need turns into a lot more than a job.
Ofcourse we have the bad guys, the good guys, those in between and all the hot sexy scenes we all have grown to know too well from this wonderful writer.

One of my favorites in the series 🔥💖

Sark is a security specialist and Isla is an unhappy forced bride hoping her husband won't continue to hurt her. She is a moon goddess and only when she glows is she fertile . Dark is hire to "protect" isla, but really he's big gorgeous and of course kindred so he reveres women. As he protects Isla they are deliberately put in situations that being them closer and closer together. Their relationship deepens and blossoms into a passionate love. Now they have to get back to kindred space, defeat her husband and his friends indeed for their love to be forever! Fabulous addition loved every minute and can't wait for this next 🔥💖🔥💖🔥🔥💖💖🔥🔥💖💖🔥🔥💖💖🔥🔥💖💖🔥💖🔥💖🔥🔥💖💖🔥🔥💖💖🔥💖🔥💖🔥🔥💖💖🔥🔥💖💖🔥🔥

This author never fails to entertain me, I love this corny, Alpha OTT Kindred.
Lady Isla was sold into a marriage to save her Grandmother. Married to a cruel man and seen as nothing more than a womb she is miserable. Needing a bodyguard for a trip off planet the Goddess guides a Kindred to help her.
Remaining childless her cruel husband decides they are going to a planet rich in fertility. They got way more than they all bargained.
You know Ms Anderson always gives us a happy ending so I won't spoil the rest of the story. Let's just say everyone got what they deserved.
Great story, I highly recommend it.

Another Winner

Evangeline has done it again!! I was on the edge of my seat reading, wanting to know what was coming! The way this one is written with the diary and journal entries, I think made it even more interesting, it helps the reader become more involved to feel the way the characters do! The situations and predicaments they find themselves in definitely keep you riveted! The outcome was so deserved if just gives the reader a sense of joy and comfort! Absolutely love this one!! I would recommend it to anyone who wants a steamy, riveting, read that you can't put down!!!

I keep making the same complaints about the Kindred books yet… I keep coming back to them.
To be honest, I am mostly just coming back to the ones on audio.

This book has…
Tentative virgin heroine
A kindred who thinks he can’t bond

But what makes me the MOST annoyed.. it has the damn Goddess.

How do we get the moan characters to meet.. let’s just have to goddess force the hero to sit down.
How do we get out of this sticky situation… let’s have to Godess whisper the answer in your ear.

What is the point of plot of anything if you just throw in deus ex machina!?!?
Lazy writing!

I enjoyed reading this book. Guarded by the Hybrid is the story of a hybrid shifter- part Giant Kindred part Dragon Kindred that gets hired to “protect” a moonstone goddess. It tells the story of Isla and Sark. This has a fantastic storyline.Isla has been trapped in an abusive marriage. Sark has tried his best to stay a part of her but he just can’t seem too. The one thing you can always depend on with Evangeline's novels is that the men are always so protective of their women and would go to the ends of the earth / galaxies to protect them.

Just when you think you can’t love a kindred any more than you do… Evangeline drops a new book.

How do I even describe the way I love this book. In this story we meet a moon goddess trapped in a loveless and abusive marriage and a kindred warrior who is sworn to protect her. Except this isn’t your typical assignment. Prepare to fall more and more in love with every chapter and clear your schedules because once you pick it up, you can’t put it down. A must read.

Isla and Sark are just incredible. Isla is in an abusive relationship. There are some scenes that depict some DV but Ms. Anderson always gives warnings and goes to great lengths to make sure no one is triggered in any way. Isla doesn't have her "glow" yet. No spoilers here, but Sark can definitely light up her room. LOL. I just loved the chemistry and the dynamics of these characters!!.

He’s a hybrid Kindred that has taken on the mission to protect her. A sci-fi romance that is part of the Kindred universe. Kindred believe all women are equal to men and would do anything to protect them. But who he needs to protect her from isn’t all he has been contracted to do. Soon they will find themselves in some very tense moments as the danger may be the person that hired him.

Sark was surprised what his guard duties included. Lol. What a neat twist to how his other half he didn’t know he had came out. Isla was so sweet to end up with such cruel husband. I also enjoyed the twist of the way the story was told. You have to grab it to see what I’m talking about. Loved it.
