Adidas’s Newest Sneaker Is Basically a Sock With a Sole (and We’re Super Into It)

Laces are so 21st century.

A few months back, Adidas Originals unveiled NMD, its newest, lightest, and, if we do say, most futuristic-looking sneaker ever. The sock-like upper, made of Adidas's own Primeknit fabric, followed in the vein of Adidas's wildly successful running styles like the Ultra Boost. (In fact, a lot of people don't even bother to tie their Ultra Boosts, given its snug, one-piece upper.) But now, a new NMD style cuts to the chase, featuring an upper with no laces at all. Meet the NMD City Sock.

Unlike previous attempts to rid the world of laces (see: Velcro, zippers), the NMD City Sock actually looks ultra-modern and sophisticated, like sneakers one imagines could be the government-issue footwear in a year-2116-set sci-fi movie. Luckily, in 2016 the robots have yet to take over, which means you're still allowed to style these up any way you'd like, whether that means with some slim sweats and a hoodie, or a pair of dark denim and a blazer for some cross-generational style vibes. And, come summer when these drop, you have our permission to go sockless in these for peak breeziness. (For lessons on how to minimize sneaker stink, click here.)
