High school sports results (Tuesday-Wednesday): Briggsdale girls remain undefeated as they prepare for state finals rematch

Boys basketball

Resurrection Christian 57, Weld Central 20, in Keenesburg: Resurrection Christian controlled all aspects of this Class 4A Patriot League game. The Cougars improved to 13-4 overall, 6-1 in league play. Weld Central fell to 8-8, 2-5.

Fort Lupton 66, Arrupe Jesuit 34, in Fort Lupton: Fort Lupton coasted to another win, improving to 14-2 overall, 7-0 in 4A Frontier League play with its 14th consecutive victory. The Bluedevils led 24-4 after one quarter and 40-11 by halftime.

Highland 92, Brush 80, in Ault: Highland’s high-powered offense carried the Huskies to their ninth consecutive win as they improved to 13-2 overall, 6-0 in 3A Patriot League play. Juniors Carson Steinke and Jacob Wares scored 24 and 20 points, respectively, for Highland. Sophomore Sawyer Morgan contributed in all areas, recording 12 points, nine assists, eight rebounds and five steals.

Severance 86, Niwot 50, in Niwot: Severance won its third consecutive game and improved to 13-4 overall, 11-1 in 5A/4A Longs Peak play. The Silver Knights had five players score double figures, led by senior Ty Adam, who had 18 points on 8-of-11 shooting to go with eight rebounds, six assists and a block.

EATON, CO ??

Eaton 71, Berthoud 52, in Eaton: Eaton methodically pulled away from Berthoud throughout the game, dominating the second half with an extended 43-28 run. Junior Mitch Haythorn led the charge with 23 points on 10-of-19 shooting to go with five rebounds. Senior Zac Grable added 15 points and tied a career-high of 11 assists. The Reds improved to 15-2 overall, 6-1 in 4A Patriot League play.

Platte Valley 69, Estes Park 29, in Estes Park: Platte Valley dominated both ends of the court to improve to 10-4 overall, 4-1 in 3A Patriot League play. The Broncos led 24-10 after one quarter and 47-16 by halftime. Senior Zach Uyemura scored 19 points on 9-of-15 shooting to lead a balanced Platte Valley offense. He also had four assists and four steals. Fellow senior Max Zenk added 15 points, 10 rebounds and two assists.

Frontier Academy 81, Wellington 23, in Wellington: Frontier Academy scored a season-high in points and secured its most decisive win of the season. The Wolverines improved to 6-9 overall, 2-3 in 3A Patriot League play.

Frederick 88, Northridge 55, in Frederick: Northridge couldn’t slow down the third-ranked team in 5A, according to CHSAANow.com. Senior Zach Van Soest was the Grizzlies’ only double-digit scorer, pouring in 14 points to go with 11 rebounds, two steals and a block. Northridge fell to 5-11 overall, 3-8 in 5A/4A Longs Peak play.

Haxtun 63, Briggsdale 47, in Haxtun: Briggsdale was unable to catch up after falling behind by slight margins early. The Falcons fell to 5-5 with the nonleague loss.

Thompson Valley 79, Roosevelt 56, in Johnstown: After playing to a 15-15 tie in the first quarter, Roosevelt lost contact after being outscored 20-4 in the second quarter. Senior Bowie Schmitz was the Rough Riders’ only double-figure scorer. He scored 23 points on 8-of-15 shooting. Roosevelt fell to 4-13 overall, 4-8 in 5A/4A Longs Peak play.

Clear Creek 58, Dayspring Christian 47, in Evergreen: Dayspring fell behind 13-9 after one quarter and 32-17 by halftime and could never fully recover. The Eagles dropped to 4-10 overall, 3-4 in 3A/2A/1A Mile High League play.

Sterling 54, Valley 32, in Gilcrest: Senior Sawyer Peterson scored 13 points on 5-of-9 shooting, but he was the only Vikings player to score double digits. Junior Aidan Brownell added nine points, five rebounds and four steals. Valley fell to 4-13 overall, 1-6 in 4A Patriot League play.

Girls basketball

Resurrection Christian 65, Weld Central 19, in Loveland: Resurrection Christian extended its win streak to four games with this lopsided victory. Junior Mackenzie Flikkema and sophomore Olivia Klein each scored 15 points for the Cougars. Flikkema also had 10 rebounds and two assists. Klein tacked on five assists and three steals. Resurrection Christian improved to 10-7 overall, 5-7 in 4A Patriot League play. Weld Central fell to 5-12, 0-7.

Briggsdale 62, Haxtun 34, in Haxtun: Briggsdale’s quest for an undefeated season continued, as the Falcons improved to 11-0 overall with this nonleague victory. Next up, the Falcons face their biggest challenge of the season when they play host to Flatirons Academy at 5 p.m. Saturday. Flatirons defeated Briggsdale in the state finals a year ago. The Bison (13-1) are the two-time defending 1A champions and are ranked first in 1A by CHSAANow.com, one spot ahead of the Falcons.

Roosevelt 75, Thompson Valley 49, in Loveland: Heading down the latter stretches of the season, Roosevelt continues to look like one of the prime contenders in 5A, winning its 15th consecutive game and improving to 15-1 overall, 12-0 in 5A/4A Longs Peak play. The Rough Riders have risen to second in CHSAANow.com’s 5A rankings, behind George Washington.

Northridge 47, Frederick 38, in Frederick: Northridge’s spectacular play continued, as the Grizzlies won their fourth consecutive game and improved to 10-6 overall, 7-4 in 5A/4A Longs Peak play. Leading just 18-16 at halftime, Northridge remained just one step ahead of Frederick, outscoring the Golden Eagles 29-22 in the second half.

Eaton 44, Berthoud 40, in Eaton: Eaton snapped a rare two-game losing streak by picking up a quality win against a strong Berthoud squad. The Reds trailed 31-28 through three quarters before outscoring the Spartans 16-9 in the fourth. Eaton improved to 12-5 overall, 5-2 in 4A Patriot League play. The Reds are ranked eighth, and Berthoud is ninth, in CHSAANow.com’s latest 4A poll.

Platte Valley 55, Estes Park 26, in Estes Park: Platte Valley continued surging, winning for the sixth time in its past seven games. The Broncos held Estes Park to seven or fewer points in each of the first three quarters. Platte Valley improved to 8-7 overall, 5-0 in 3A Patriot League play.

Dayspring Christian 65, Clear Creek 3, in Evergreen: Dayspring Christian was completely dominant on both ends of the court, improving to 10-4 overall, 5-0 in 3A/2A/1A Mile High League play.

Severance 75, Niwot 12, in Niwot: Severance snapped its six-game losing streak in emphatic fashion, with one of its most lopsided wins of the season. Junior Attley Helzer led the Silver Knights with a career-high 39 points on 16-of-22 shooting. She sank five of eight 3-pointers. Severance improved to 5-12 overall, 4-8 in 5A/4A Longs Peak play.

Brush 59, Highland 47, in Brush: Highland had an early 13-10 lead in the first quarter, but Brush outscored the Huskies in each of the final three quarters. Sophomore Briza Flores led the Huskies with 19 points. Highland fell to 9-6 overall, 4-2 in 3A Patriot League play.

Sterling 41, Valley 17, in Sterling: Valley was unable to get its offense going in this league loss. Junior Peyton Savolt was the only Vikings player to score more than two points. She had 10 points, six rebounds, two blocks and two steals. Valley fell to 8-9 overall, 1-6 in 4A Patriot League play.

Arrupe Jesuit 71, Fort Lupton 25, in Fort Lupton: Arrupe quickly seized control, going up 19-4 in the first quarter and 36-9 by halftime. The Bluedevils fell to 3-13 overall, 1-6 in 4A Frontier play.

Girls wrestling

Fort Lupton 45, Severance 30: Fort Lupton won four of seven contested matches in this hard-fought dual. The Bluedevils also benefitted from four wins by forfeit. In the only contested match that didn’t end in a pin, Bluedevils 125-pounder Genevieve Hunt defeated Faith Vondy 8-3.

Boys basketball

Windsor 51, Longmont 45, in Windsor: Windsor, ranked sixth in 5A by CHSAANow.com, picked up a quality win against 10th-ranked Longmont. The Wizards rallied after falling behind 14-8 through the first quarter and 32-28 through three quarters. Senior David Hageman led Windsor with 17 points, three steals and two assists. The Wizards improved to 14-4 overall, 8-1 in 6A/5A/4A Northern Conference play.

Valley 70, Wellington 21, in Gilcrest: Valley secured this lopsided nonleague win to improve to 5-13 overall. Senior Sawyer Peterson led the way with 14 points on 7-of-9 shooting. Junior Aidan Brownell added eight points, five assists and five steals. All 13 players the Vikings played scored.

Holy Family 80, Greeley Central 69, in Broomfield: Greeley Central remained just out of arm’s reach all game against the fifth-ranked team in 4A, according to CHSAANow.com. The Wildcats fell to 4-14 overall, 2-7 in 6A/5A/4A Northern Conference play.

Mead 70, Greeley West 52, in Mead: Greeley West struggled against the fourth-ranked team in 5A, according to CHSAANow.com. The Spartans suffered their third consecutive loss and fell to 5-13 overall, 1-8 in 6A/5A/4A Northern Conference play.

Girls basketball

Windsor 66, Longmont 23, in Windsor: Windsor dominated from buzzer to buzzer, improving to 13-5 overall, 9-0 in 6A/5A/4A Northern Conference play. The Wizards led 22-3 after one quarter and 39-6 by halftime.

Valley 52, Wellington 43, in Wellington: Valley evened its overall record at 9-9. Leading just 39-37 through three quarters, the Vikings outscored Wellington 13-6 in the fourth. Senior Abril Fuentes scored a career-high 26 points to go with 14 rebounds and two blocks. Her 14 rebounds also tied her career-high.

Holy Family 56, Greeley Central 48, in Broomfield: Greeley Central went toe-to-toe with the top-ranked team in 4A, according to CHSAANow.com. Greeley Central is unranked in 5A. Holy Family led just 34-31 at halftime. The Tigers (15-2) extended that lead to 52-38 through three quarters. The Wildcats fell to 7-10 overall, 4-5 in 6A/5A/4A Northern Conference play.

Mead 62, Greeley West 15, in Mead: Greeley West struggled on both ends of the floor against the fifth-ranked team in 5A, according to CHSAANow.com. The Spartans suffered their 14th consecutive loss and fell to 1-17 overall, 0-9 in 6A/5A/4A Northern Conference play.

Boys wrestling

Northridge 53, Niwot 24: Northridge dominated contested matches, winning eight of the nine. The Grizzlies had seven pins and one technical fall. Northridge 157-pounder Karver Lopez earned a 16-0 technical fall against Oliver Jones.

Fort Lupton wins two: Fort Lupton picked up a pair of dual wins, defeating Elizabeth 66-13 and Skyview 66-15. The Bluedevils won six of nine contested matches and received five wins by forfeit against Elizabeth. And against Skyview, Fort Lupton won seven of 10 contested matches and secured four wins by forfeit.

Roosevelt 47, Fort Morgan 22, in Fort Morgan: Roosevelt won seven of nine contested matches, including four pins. Bronco Hartson had the Rough Riders’ quickest pin, putting away Nate Dahl in 33 seconds in the 190 match.

Thompson Valley 39, Severance 29: In a battle of top-10 teams, Severance won seven of 14 contested matches, racking up two technical falls, one pin and one major decision. In the Silver Knights’ most tightly contested win, 285-pounder Dominic Butts defeated Sabastian Sanchez 2-1. Thompson Valley is ranked second in 4A by Tim Yount of On the Mat (Tim@onthematrankings.com). Severance is fourth in 3A.
