Bambusa is a genus with 153 medium to large size clumping bamboo species, and very popular among growers and cultivators. They are usually very strong and have thick culm walls, with small branches and small leaves.

Bambusa species are subtropical and tropical clumping bamboos native to: Assam, Bangladesh, Bismarck Archipelago, Borneo, Cambodia, China South-Central, China Southeast, East Himalaya, Hainan, India, Java, Laos, Lesser Sunda Is., Malaya, Maluku, Myanmar, Nepal, New Guinea, Northern Territory, Philippines, Solomon Is., Sri Lanka, Sulawesi, Sumatera, Taiwan, Thailand, Tibet, Vietnam and West Himalaya.
