Hi, I'm Andie.

I live near the Swiss Alps, in Bern, and I love not only melting cheese, but all kinds of Swiss cooking.

En Guetä!

Wienerli im Teig

Another Swiss family favourite (and one that’s easy for kids to make), these puff pastry swaddled sausages are simple, nostalgic, and delicious.

These practically don’t require a recipe, but you can make their design as simple or as complicated as you like.

My toddler likes to use cookie cutters to personalize her rolls, cutting out trains and animals to put on top. Here, I tried out a star pattern, but for an even easier upgrade you can leave off the cutouts and use a ravioli cutter to make fluted edges.

8 Wienerli (Vienna sausage)

1 pack puff pastry (around 320 g)

mustard

1 egg

Preheat oven to 200 C / 400 F / gas mark 6.

Roll out your puff pastry.

Cut out 8 strips, reserving a patch of dough for cutting out decorations, if desired.

Spread each strip with a bit of mustard and twirl it around a wiener. Decorate with cut-out dough.

Place on a parchment-lined baking tray and brush with egg.

Bake for about 20 minutes, or until golden.

  • You can experiment with different variations—try adding a bit of cheese or a pickle as you wrap up the wiener—or instead of Wienerli, use Cervelat.
