Platters, rolls, and baskets: Where to find fried scallops every way in Greater Fall River
Don’t think that fried seafood is just a summer thing.
We’re New Englanders, and we can indulge pretty much year-round, even when some of our favorite seasonal places say goodbye at the end of the season.
Fried seafood is in fact just as good in October, as evidenced by Oct. 2 being National Fried Scallops Day.
Pan-seared scallops are just as good, and sweet, and tender, but Oct. 2 is not about them. They’ll have to get their own day.
When it comes to fried scallops, they’re great all on their own as the star of a dish, or they’re top-billed co-stars in platters and seafood baskets. Plus, who can deny the appeal of the scallop roll?

Barrett’s Waterfront, Fall River

Hours: Sunday to Thursday, from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m.; Friday and Saturday, from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m.
The fried scallop basket comes with deep-fried scallops, french fries, coleslaw, tartar sauce, and a lemon wedge. Or try the fried half & half basket, with a half order of deep-fried scallops and fried whole belly clams. That also comes with french fries, coleslaw, tartar sauce, and a lemon wedge.
The Cove Restaurant & Marina, Fall River

Hours: Monday to Thursday, from 11:30 a.m. to 9 p.m.; Friday and Saturday, from 11:30 a.m. to 9:30 p.m.; Sunday, from 11:30 a.m. to 8 p.m.
You can get your fried scallops at The Cove as a platter. Crispy scallops are served with french fries, coleslaw, and tartar sauce.
LePage’s Seafood, Fall River

Hours: Sunday, Monday, and Thursday, from noon to 8 p.m.; Friday and Saturday, from noon to 9 p.m.; Closed Tuesday and Wednesday

The Captain’s Plate serves up heaps of seafood. It comes with fish and chips, whole belly fried clams, fried shrimp, fried scallops, onion rings, and a stuffie, all served alongside hand-cut fries. They also offer a fried scallop plate, if you want to keep things simple.
McGovern’s Family Restaurant, Fall River

Get your scallops in a couple different combinations. Try the fried deep sea platter, with lightly-battered scallops, shrimp, fried fish, whole Maine clams, and lobster. Or order the house fried seafood platter, with shrimp, scallops, fried fish, clam strips, and onion rings.
Sakonnet River Grille, Tiverton

How about making it a sandwich? The fried bay scallop roll comes with lightly-breaded bay scallops, coleslaw, french fries, and tartar sauce. The Sakonnet River Grille also offers a fried bay scallop dinner.

Macray’s Seafood, Tiverton

Get a little bit of everything with the Macray’s sampler. It comes with a cup of chowder, clam cakes, whole belly clams, scallops, and fish nuggets. Macray’s also has a scallop roll, served on a toasted and buttered bun, plus a scallop appetizer, a combo plate of clams and scallops, and a fried scallop plate. The fisherman’s platter comes with whole belly clams, scallops, shrimp, cod fillet, and clam cakes.
The Back Eddy, Westport

Keep it extra local with some seafood from New Bedford at Westport’s The Back Eddy. The fried New Bedford sea scallops come with hand-cut fries, coleslaw, and tartar sauce.

How about scallops and oysters? You can get a half fried scallop/half fried oyster plate, served with hand-cut fries and housemade slaw and tartar sauce. Bayside also features scallops in their fisherman’s platter, along with cod, whole belly clams, and shrimp. They’ve got a fried scallop plate (they serve New Bedford sea scallops), and a half scallop/half shrimp plate.
