Derwent Edge

Back Tor, Derwent Edge, Dovestone Tor from Ladybower Reservoir

One of my favourite hiking routes is Back Tor, Derwent Edge, Dovestone Tor from Derwent Reservoir. A 8.5 miles of rocky terrain route with stunning views over Ladybower Reservoir. The route start is at Upper Derwent Visitor Centre car park. The parking was £5 for up to 6 hours and there are facilities available, bike repair or hire, place to get food, drinks or ice cream.

When the Derwent Reservoir is full, the water goes over the dam creating a beautiful waterfall.

It is so peaceful to watch the waterfall and each crystal clear water drop. Play the attached video, take a deep breath in and relax for few seconds.

From Derwent Dam we started to ascend to Back Tor. The path was moderate, a little bit wet and muddy but once you’ve reached the top we enjoyed the stoned path.

The walk is above Derwent and Ladybower Reservoir. It is a little bit windy up there but we were lucky to have some sunny spells and clear views.

I am always amassed by the beauty of nature and how the power of wind and water have carved in stone and created these stunning views.

I do believe every season has it’s beauty and every time you go on the same route you will see different things so I would like to go back and see these amazing view on a summer day with vivid colours and clear sky.
