Seinfeld actress Ali Wentworth, who played Jerry’s overly affectionate girlfriend on the “Soup Nazi” episode, was shocked to hear about former co-star Jason Alexander‘s unprompted attack on Heidi Swedberg last week.
“I read a little bit about that, and I was a little bit like, ‘Wow, now? Now?’ ” Wentworth told The Hollywood Reporter at a party for her new book, Happily Ali After, which humorously documents her recent self-improvement quest.
Wentworth and Jerry Seinfeld, whose characters were fond of calling each other “schmoopie,” shared a diner scene with Alexander and Swedberg. Wentworth, who’s spoken often about her role on that episode, said she recalls “having a lot more fun than [Alexander and Swedberg] were, for sure.”
“I do remember Jason and Jerry and I sparring and having fun,” said Wentworth, “and she didn’t, really — I don’t remember her saying much or doing much.”
She also joked that perhaps she, herself, might have been tough to work with as well.
“I’m sure there was a reason I only did one episode,” she said. “I don’t know why I didn’t end up marrying him.”

Specifically, she told the gathering of TV stars at the Ralph Lauren store on Manhattan’s Upper East Side, she was motivated when she was watching GMA in her pajamas and saw Lena Dunham refer to Stephanopoulos as a “sexual icon.”

“I thought, ‘That’s it. I’m married to a sexual icon. I gotta step it up. I gotta do my roots. I gotta exercise,’ ” said Wentworth.
Wentworth and Stephanopoulos were joined at the party and book signing by Seinfeld’s wife, Jessica; Robin Roberts; Kelly Ripa; David Muir; Barbara Walters; Joy Behar; Gayle King; and Michael J. Fox, among others.
