Law & Order True Crime: The Menendez Murders is adding to its ensemble.
Josh Stamberg (The Affair, Parenthood) and Rya Kihlstedt (Heroes Reborn, Dexter) have signed on for the forthcoming anthology, The Hollywood Reporter has learned.
The eight-episode first installment of the anthology series is described as a “gripping in-depth dramatization” of the famed murder case that took America by storm in the early 1990s. When Lyle and Erik Menendez were tried on national TV for brutally killing their parents in Beverly Hills, their story became a national obsession. Law & Order True Crime: The Menendez Murders dives into the players, the crime and the media circus, detailing the day-to-day battles of the trial and unveiling the shocking truth of what really went down behind the scenes.
Kihlstedt will play Cindy Erdelyi, an ex-cop who is Menendez lawyer Leslie Abramson’s go-to investigator. She is described as hard-hitting with connections at every level of law enforcement. The actress, whose other credits include Nashville and One Mississippi, is repped by Innovative Artists and Untitled Entertainment.
Stamberg will play Robert Rand, a nonthreatening reporter who has gained access to the Menendez home and forms a connection with the case. (The role hits close to home for the actor, whose mother is award-winning NPR journalist Susan Stamberg.) The actor, also known for his work in Drop Dead Diva, Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip and Over There, is repped by Innovative Artists and Suskin Management.
Led by four-time Emmy winner Edie Falco, the cast of Law & Order True Crime also includes Josh Charles, Heather Graham, Miles Gaston Villanueva and Gus Halper
Law & Order vet Rene Balcer serves as showrunner, while Lesli Linka Glatter (Homeland) will direct several episodes. The two will executive produce with Wolf, Peter Jankowski and Arthur W. Forney. Universal Television will produce in association with Wolf Films.
Law & Order True Crime: The Menendez Murders premieres Tuesday, Sept. 26, at 10 p.m. on NBC.
