Nice palm, where did you get that? mail order? if so, for how much? I tried one of those before, but i planted it inside of a large outdoor aviary and a couple of cockatiels ripped it to shreds. I should have waited to plant it there until after i moved the aviary, since it was only a matter of time until i moved it, but i didn't. I have heard of these palms doing well in the Santa Cruz Mountains here in California (site of the recent Northern California wildfire) and they ocassionaly get snow there at high altitudes, with frosts every year. The palms even survived the statewide freeze we had in January 2007 with only a plastic trash bin over them. Definately worth a try. You might also give Dypsis Decipiens a try. They are hardy down to 18 degrees F when mature. They are very slow but definately worth the wait. Speaking of which, i plan on picking up a couple of ten year old seedlings at a local nursery soon. Yes, you heard right, 10 years old and still in a two gallon pot!
Hi, I got it from a nearby nursery in the UK called Trevena Cross. It cost me £9.95 ($17.94) I'm not sure if they ship to the USA, but I think you would need a phytosanitary certificate for that anyway. I am also hoping to try Strelitzia reginae & nicolai, Archontophoenix cunninghamiana and Syagrus romanzoffiana. I already have a Howea in the ground, and it is doing well, as well as two Phoenix canariensis and 4 Trachycarpus fortunei. Dypsis Decipiens sounds interesting, I'd love to try that. Thanks James
