Introduction
Agaru is commonly known as Eagle Wood. It is also known as Aloe wood. Agaru is an evergreen large tree having a height of about 20 m. In India, it grows in hilly regions of the North East. The wood is infected by a type of fungi and becomes black in color and aromatic. This part of Agaru has medicinal values. It is also used in the preparation of perfumes and cosmetics.

Actions of Agaru (Aquilaria Agallocha)
Agaru pacifies Vata dosha and Kapha dosha. As Agaru has aromatic properties, it is used to remove bad smells. It is also useful in various discomforts including allergies affecting ears and eyes. Agaru helps to alleviate pain also. It has an aphrodisiac and rejuvenating property.

Home Remedies of Agaru (Aquilaria Agallocha)
Agaru is used in India since ancient times. According to Acharya Charaka, it is used as a perfume, incense, etc. Agaru is used especially as an anti-microbial agent. Agaru can be used either alone or by combining with other medicinal herbs. Suitable adjuvants should be added along with Agaru.
- For Dhupana (fumigation) with Agaru has antimicrobial action – 5-gram Agaru is taken in an earthen pot, mix it with coconut fiber, and burn it. Once the smoke is settled we can fumigate the required area for five to ten minutes. This fumigation provides an antimicrobial activity.
- Joint Inflammation – Agaru wood is powdered and made into a paste by adding warm water and applied externally.
- Fever – 5-gram Agaru powder is taken, boiled in 1.5 glasses of water, and reduced to 1 glass to obtain Kwatha. This can be given internally in fever.
- Giddiness – Agaru powder can be given with honey internally.
- Hiccough and Asthma – About 600mg of Agaru powder is given along with Honey.
- Skin Disorders – Taila (oil) is prepared using Agaru wood and applied externally at the site of skin disease.
- Headache – Agaru is mixed with Ishwaramula and made into a paste. This is applied over the forehead for headaches.
