Carex canescens; The White sedge is a common sedge growing in most regions of Iceland, except for the barren highlands. From a distance it can be recognized as a rather light-colored sedge. This is due to the rather light-green foliage and slightly yellowish-green fruits in the inflorescences. Hence the name "white" sedge. It grows on wet grounds (bogs, also in shallow water). A synonym that has been used in the past is Carex curta.
It is a member of the sedge family (Cyperaceae). The Icelandic name of this species is Blátoppastör.
