Cirsium arvense; The Creeping Thistle is relatively tall herbaceaus plant that can grow up to 70cm. It is a perennial plant that can can form dense stands. It is an introduced species.
- The leaves are pinately incised up to 12cm long. Quite characteristic are the spines along the margins.
- The flower heads have purple flowers. It flowers late summer.
- It grows near human settlements or abandoned settlements (dump places, road sides etc.). Once settled, it is long-lasting.
- It is a member of the Asteraceae family (= Compositae ), the daisy family. The Icelandic name of this species is Þistill.
