The Super Bowl may be all about the actual game for most, but for others it’s all about the star-studded commercials and the movie trailer premieres. The “big game” always brings out the big names, and this year we’re getting a commercial directed by – and starring! – Martin Scorsese. And because these things always come online early now, well, it’s already online.
Martin Scorsese directed the 90-second short film “Hello Down There” for website building/hosting company Squarespace this year, and you can watch the extended cut below!
“Hello Down There” is “a tale of intergalactic outreach” from Scorsese, a ripped-from-the-headlines look at a modern alien invasion that everyone’s too distracted to pay attention to.
“What does a highly advanced civilization have to do to get noticed around here?” the commercial asks. Watch the full extended version of the Super Bowl ad below to find out…

At its most basic, possession horror exploits the primal fear of losing control over your own person, usually due to a demonic entity. Victims in a possession movie are rendered mere passengers in their bodies as a sinister force takes over and destroys them from the inside. That potent combination of body horror and a complete lack of free will makes for inherently terrifying and fertile ground for exploration. While possession horror is often tied to biblical battles of good versus evil, that’s not always the case.
This week’s streaming picks are dedicated to demonic possession horror titles that leave conventional depictions of faith and exorcisms behind for new terrain and metaphors.
Here’s where you can stream them this week.

Possession horror tends to take the possession seriously, opting for full-throttle scares and intense emotional or faith-related stakes.

Co-directed by Matt Angel and Suzanne Coote, The Wrath of Becky is a sequel to Becky, a twisted home invasion horror that quickly gained cult appeal when it was released in 2020. The story picks up three years after the events of the first film, with a now 16-year-old Becky (Lulu Wilson) living with kindly elderly lady Elena (Denise Burse) and working as a diner waitress. Directed by Matt Angel and Suzanne Coote and starring Lulu Wilson as Becky, a killing machine, “The Wrath of Becky” is a sequel to Becky (2020) that is much more enjoyable and action-packed.
This film does not have a single philosophical idea to discuss during our existentialist meetings. Since we stopped attending those meetings, our lives have been much better.
Plot
Two years after surviving a violent attack on her family, 16-year-old Becky tries to rebuild her life while caring for an older woman, a kindred spirit named Elena. However, when a violent group known as the Noble Men breaks into her home, attacks them, and takes her beloved dog, Becky must take matters into her own hands to protect herself and her loved ones.

You just don’t mess with someone’s dog. If John Wick has taught us anything, it’s that. Quiver Distribution has dropped a gruesome red-band trailer for The Wrath of Becky, which follows the title character as she attempts to rescue her beloved dog, Diego, after he’s taken by a fascist organization. Check out the Wrath of Becky trailer above!
The first movie must have slipped completely under my radar, as I had no idea that Wrath of Becky was a sequel to anything. I should probably make an effort to check out that first film because Wrath of Becky looks like an absolute blast. You really can’t go wrong with blood-soaked revenge. Here’s the official synopsis: “Two years after she escaped a violent attack on her family, Becky attempts to rebuild her life in the care of an older woman – a kindred spirit named Elena.

Seven months have gone by since we heard the awesome news that production had wrapped on The Wrath of Becky, a sequel to the very cool “ultra violent Home Alone” thriller Becky (watch it Here, read the 9/10 review the film received from our own Lance Vlcek Here). We still don’t know when The Wrath of Becky is going to receive a wide release, but it has been announced that the movie is going to have a world premiere screening at the South by Southwest film festival in March – and along with that announcement comes the unveiling of a first look image, which can be seen at the bottom of this article. The image shows our heroine Becky, played by Lulu Wilson (Annabelle: Creation), at a moment where she’s soaked with blood.

A gory good time, Jonathan Milott and Cary Murnion‘s home invasion action-thriller Becky (read Meagan’s review) was released in 2020, and the sequel will be World Premiering at the SXSW Film Festival this year, Bloody Disgusting just learned today. The sequel is titled The Wrath of Becky, and we’ve also got a Bloody first-look image for ya.
In the film, “After living off the grid for two years, Becky finds herself going toe to toe against Darryl, the leader of a fascist organization, on the eve of an organized attack.”
Lulu Wilson stars alongside Seann William Scott, Matt Angel, Courtney Gains, Aaron Dalla Villa, Michael Sirow, Denise Burse-Fernandez, Jill Larson, and Kate Siegel.
Matt Angel and Suzanne Coote (The Open House) wrote and directed Becky 2.
Raphael Margules, Jd Lifshitz, Tracy Rosenblum, Russell Posternak, Chadd Harbold produced.

Holy hell this year’s SXSW Film Festival isn’t messing around.
The official lineup has just been revealed and it’s a banger, starting off with a special screening of Evil Dead Rise!
In addition, they have several prominent horror titles that will premiere as part of the Midnighters program, including the Sundance hit Talk to Me and the surprise sequel to Becky, The Wrath of Becky!
“Midnighters don’t need to be exclusively horror films, they just need to perk you up and get your blood pumping,” said Peter Hall, Film & TV Festival Programmer. “That’s why this year’s SXSW Midnighters class is a mix of horror, bone-crunching action, and mind-melting genre hybrids. Some of them introduce new, terrifying lore to the canon of suburban horror movies, some will worm around in your brain like thoughts you can’t shake, but all of them will make you...

This weekend marks the much-noted 50th anniversary of “The French Connection’s” release. “The Manor” perhaps inadvertently stirs memories of another William Friedkin joint, 1990 horror “The Guardian,” which was so disliked by the director that he omitted mentioning it in his otherwise fairly comprehensive memoirs. This addition to the second “Welcome to the Blumhouse” quartet of genre features likewise offers an evil tree-entity, to perhaps less campily absurd results — which is both a good and a bad thing.
Writer-director Axelle Carolyn’s second solo feature (following 2013’s ghost story “Soulmate”) provides a welcome starring vehicle for Barbara Hershey, who hasn’t had one in some years. But . Completing the current “Welcome” package, “The Manor” makes its Amazon Prime bow alongside “Madres” on Oct. 8.

Happy New Year and welcome back for our first Let’s Scare Bryan to Death of 2021, where I’m kicking things off with a really fun discussion with Renée Bever. You may know Bever as an artist, horror analyst, and co-host of the great Attack of the Queerwolf podcast. I already knew that this was going to be a treat given her thoughtful, empathetic, and often hilarious approach to interpreting horror films. What I did not know, however, was that when she nominated Adam Robitel’s 2014 found footage film The Taking of Deborah Logan, I was about to watch the best movie I’ve seen since I started this column.
The premise, as is the case in most found footage films, is pretty simple. A group of grad students led by young Mia (Michelle Ang) are making a documentary about Alzheimer’s disease, and the movie picks up as they...

All My Children has been off the air for several years, but that didn’t stop Erica Kane from holding court on Thursday’s Home & Family.
The long-running ABC soap’s central character — and a bunch more — were the focus of the Hallmark Channel morning show as part of Susan Lucci‘s week-long co-hosting stint. Halloween 2016: 31 Movies to Stream on Netflix this October to Get You into the Spirit of the Season
One of my favorite things to do every October is to binge-watch as many horror and sci-fi movies as possible (something I can guarantee I’m not alone in doing), and for those of you with Netflix, the streaming service can be an invaluable resource this time of year, although I do remember a time when there were a lot more options than we get these days.
That being said, I culled Netflix's entire library and put together 31 great movie choices that will undoubtedly get you into a macabre mood to celebrate Halloween this year. Take a look at our Netflix list below, featuring one film for each day of October, and get ready to enjoy an entire month’s worth of fright-filled fun, courtesy of Netflix’s streaming database.
Creep (2014)
Looking for work, Aaron (Patrick Brice) comes across a cryptic online ad: “$1,000 for the day. Filming service. Discretion is appreciated.

I was about 8 years old the first time I saw the inside of a nursing home. This wasn't a senior apartment complex or an assisted living facility. It was a depressing place with fluorescently lit rooms for sleeping and a television room for visiting. And it was full of people that time forgot and especially people who forgot time.
My step-grandfather had Alzheimer's and for some reason my parents thought bringing a strange little girl to visit him would lift his spirits as if he wasn't confused enough.
I'll never forget the moment when I walked through the doors into the waiting room. An elderly woman who I had never seen before in my life bent down until she met me at eye level, smiled, and said, "I remember you when you were just a baby."
Aside from being just as confused as she was,...

Blah, blah, blah, found footage movies suck. Okay, now that that (far too frequently correct) generalization is out of the way let’s take a look at three new horror titles available this week on VOD. Yes, they’re all found footage films, but there’s a twist… only one of them sucks. Another is mediocre at best, and the third? Well it just might be one of the year’s best horror movies. Hangar 10 follows a trio of friends who head into a British forest to investigate search for gold but get caught up in strange events that appear to echo a UFO sighting there 33 years prior. Exists follows a group of friends who head into an East Texas forest for some deep woods shenanigans but unintentionally piss off Bigfoot along the way. The Taking of Deborah Logan does not involve aliens, Bigfoot or the woods, but it does feature a harrowing look at the pain...

Straight-to-dvd distribution is usually a pretty good indication that a horror movie isn't worth your time, but “The Taking of Deborah Logan” — produced by Bryan Singer and currently streaming on Netflix — is one of the finer exceptions. See photos: 9 Most Popular Hollywood-Themed Halloween Costumes: From ‘Frozen’ to ‘Captain America’ (Photos) The found-footage horror film that tracks the possession of the eponymous character, played by 67-year-old soap opera actress Jill Larson (“All My Children”) with demonic intensity, succeeds in delivering the thrills and chills the genre is supposed to offer after opening on a unique premise: A Ph.D. student is making.

Here a trailer and clip from a creepy looking horror film called The Taking of Deborah Logan. I haven't heard of this film until recently, but it's one that I plan on checking out in the near future. It comes from producer Adam Robitel, who wrote and directed the film. He's also the producer of films such as X-Men, and my favorite Halloween horror movie ever, Trick 'r Treat. Here's the synopsis:
Mia Medina (Michelle Ang) has finally found the perfect subject for her PhD thesis film on Alzheimer’s Disease. For the next several months, cameras will record the everyday life of mother Deborah Logan (Jill Larson) and her daughter Sarah (Anne Ramsay). But as the days progress, strange things beginning to happen around Deborah that are not consistent with any findings about Alzheimer’s.
It becomes apparent that there’s something besides Alzheimer’s that has taken control of Deborah’s life.
