Anu and Mikko-two Karelian lovers
Petey-1015 March 2011
Orvo Saarikivi's Anu ja Mikko (1940) follows the story of Karelian man and woman, who fall in love.I read the 1932 novel by Kersti Bergroth this movie is based on before seeing this movie. This isn't as good as the latter, the 1956 version of the book. This is pretty theatrical. But it's nice to listen to that Karelian dialect they speak. And the accordion plays nicely in the summertime Finland. The actors do the best they can.Henny Valjus plays Anu while Santeri Karilo does the role of Mikko.Kerttu Salmi is Vappo, Anu's aunt.Uuno Laakso plays the part of Papan Antti, Anu's godfather.Aino Lohikoski is Amerikan Mari.Reino Valkama portrays Ukonmäen Junu.Anitra Karto is Heti, the maid of Ukonmäki.Uuno Montonen is Ukonmäen Isäntä.Hannes Häyrinen plays Pelimanni-Kalle.The movie is mildly funny, like when they portray the relationship between Amerikan Mari and Pelimanni-Kalle.So the movie is worth checking out.At least for Historic reasons.
