Acrosorium ciliolatum can be found from San Luis Obispo County, California (USA) to San Benito Island and Bay of Cabo San Lucas (MEX); including Channel Islands, California and Guadalupe Island, Baja California (MEX). Very rare north of San Luis Obispo but has been seen on worm tubes or rocks at Monterey Peninsula, California (USA).
Habitat
A. ciliolatum is commonly epiphytic on a variety of algae, especially Pterocladiella, in low intertidal to subtidal (to 30 m).

Acrosorium ciliolatum thalli is epiphytic or saxicolous, up to 8 cm tall, deep rose red, the blades occasionally end in hooks that may function as tendrils, the saxicolous form is more robustly developed but shorter than epiphytic one. This species may be confused with Cryptopleura crispa which can also be epiphytic; however, A. ciliolatum possesses longer and thinner blades, as well as hooked tips (Abbott and Hollenberg, 1976).
