Volkswagen has unveiled the Virtus sedan for the Indian market and commenced pre-bookings for the same ahead of its launch in the coming weeks. The sedan shares its platform and powertrains with the Skoda Slavia and will go head to head with it, as well as the Honda City, Hyundai Verna and Maruti Suzuki Ciaz.

The Virtus carries the familiar Volkswagen design language but is visually different from its namesake sold in South American markets like Brazil. Up front, the Volkswagen Virtus gets LED headlamps with LED DRLs and at the back the tail lamps get an LED signature as well. The GT Line adds sportiness to the exterior with a dual-tone look including a blacked out roof, black ORVMs as well as GT badging and black 16in alloy wheels.

Inside, the dashboard gets a 10in touchscreen display for the infotainment functions and there's an 8in digital instrument cluster present as well. Other features include automatic climate control, sunroof, six airbags, ventilated front seats to name a few.

The VW Virtus measures 4,561mm long, 1,752mm wide and sits on a wheelbase measuring 2,651mm. It has a boot space of 521 litres that can be expanded by flipping down the rear seats. Powering the VW Virtus Dynamic Line is a 1.0-litre turbo petrol with 115bhp offered with either a 6-speed manual or a 6-speed automatic. The VW Virtus GT Line comes with a 150bhp 1.5-litre turbo petrol paired with either a 6-speed manual or a 7-speed DSG.

Volkswagen Virtus launch will take place in the coming weeks and ahead of the price announcement, Volkswagen has commenced bookings for the sedan. Expect prices to fall in the same ballpark as the Skoda Slavia which retails for Rs 10.69 lakh to Rs 17.79 lakh (ex-showroom).
