McDonald’s has released the Double Big Mac, and it looks ridiculous

The Double Big Mac, a ridiculous tower of meat and flavor, is back at McDonald's starting this week and hungry sandwich fanatics are excited. Here's what we know about it.

Where can I get a Double Big Mac in Indianapolis?

As of Friday, the Double Big Mac was a "no show" on the official McDonald's app for some Indianapolis users, but the sandwich can be found on the menu at various locations, including Meridian and 16th. The price appears to range from $6-8 depending on location.

What's in the Double Big Mac?

The Double Big Mac has all the same ingredients of its smaller sibling, the Big Mac — lettuce, cheddar cheese, pickles, onions and special sauce — yet stands taller with four beef patties and three sesame seed buns.

The Double Big Mac with four beef patties is now available for a limited time.

What's different about the Double Big Mac in 2024?

Recent updates to the McDonald's burger recipe, the company announced, include a "juicier, caramelized flavor" and "softer, pillowy buns." Appropriate, given how eating these things usually makes us want to take a nap afterwards.

How does the Double Big Mac taste?

In short? Delicious, sources say. Most McDonald's fanatics have praised the sandwich for being juicier and more filling than the regular Big Mac. In fact, our colleagues at Cincinnati.com recently rated the Double Big Mac as a "double dose of deliciousness" among its Big Mac connoisseurs. Out of five taste-testers, it earned a 3.5/5 average rating.

They also challenged themselves to see who could take the cleanest, biggest bite out of the burger, which they shared on TikTok.

Is the Double Big Mac healthy?

No. God, no... Well, let's be fair. Your overall health, experts say, has more to do with the diet and exercise habits you build up over time. For example, the cholesterol levels of a marathon runner who consumes exactly one hamburger a month will be different than, say, someone who eats a high-calorie fast food meal twice a day and never gets off the couch.

For the health-conscious consumer, each Double Big Mac is 740 calories. It contains 48 grams of carbs, 38 grams of protein and a whopping 44 grams of total fat, according to nutritional information provided by McDonald's.

Burger King's Whopper Sandwich with cheese, for comparison sake, is also 740 calories and has 46 grams of total fat, 50 grams of carbs and 1,340 mg of sodium.

How much fat should I eat per day? How much sodium?

Health experts at the Mayo Clinic say 44-78 grams is the amount of daily fat you should be consuming if sticking to a 2,000-calorie diet, and no more than 22 grams of it should be from saturated fat — of which the Double Big Mac provides 85% the daily value. The Double Big Mac also contains 1,020 mg of sodium. That's roughly half the daily amount (2,300 mg) recommended by the FDA.

Keep that in mind if you order large fries and a Coke.
